Post Starter recommendation

I am going to buy a new started this week and thought I might get the high torque starter from Performance. Has anyone ever used this or a similar model? I have a stock SC and dont want to add any hassle to the car with this unit, such as hurting the flywheel or having engagement probelms. Since it's only a few dollars more I figured it would be a simple upgrade.

Thanks for any input

Chris

You may want to check the starter available through Paragon Products - $215. I've heard good comments about it. Here's the web link: http://www.smartcart.com/Paragon/cgi...m=911HTStarter

No affiliation, etc.

I purchased the high torque starter from Performance and so far it works great. My engine is a 3.4 with 10.3:1 compression and the starter has no problem turning it over.
You'll probably have to loosen the clips which secure the wiring to the body for a little more length, the high torque starter connections are in different locations from the OEM starter. good luck!

The OEM starter is more than adequate for a stock engine. If you need a new starter, check with local auto-electric repair outfits. They can rebuild the Bosch units for a reasonable price.

When my overheated 915 cooked my starter, I passed on getting a rebuilt Bosch unit ($200), and instead got the high torque one from Pelican (for the then price of $199). The torque is a non-issue for me -- when was the last time an adequately-powered starter didn't have enough oomph to turn over the engine? But the newer unit is only 8.1 pounds, which is signifcantly lighter than the stock one.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I thought about getting my unit rebuilt but due to time restraints I will bite the bullet. I like the Performance 30 month warranty, I need to see if it applies to the starter as well.

Thanks again for your input!
