I just got a 78' 911SC Targa 171k and drove it home last night. I noticed that when it is fully warm and I come to an idle I here a gurgling that sounds like water flowing. I realize that this is air cooled so could this be the oil flow? If so is this normal?
Oil pressure is good and the previous owner has used Mobil 1 for over 3 years in it.
Any help would be great.
Thanks.
I would bet that the thermostat in the rear wheel well which controls oil flow up to the trombone cooler isn't opening all the way.
I experience this noise on my 74 911, but when the motor is cold ( in my case, the thermostat isn't closing all the way)...once warmed up to operating temp (about 180F)the thermostat opens fully, and the gurgling goes away
