Default Carrera not running well after storage

My '87 Carrera has been in storage for winter for the last 7 months and I recently went and put the battery back in the car to move it. When I did, it was missing quite badly at idle and under load. The fuel tank was filled with fresh fuel and was run with stabilizer before parking.

The strange thing is that it was running perfectly before it was stored for winter. I'm going to go through the process of elimination to determine what might be wrong. I thought maybe a rodent has entered into the engine compartment but the car is stored in an underground parking where there have been no signs of pest entry. Any easy things to cross off my list?

Run a search for 'Italian Tune-up'....often works wonders on German cars too

Last spring I had a similar issue - car went in for the winter running perfectly, and came out stumbling, missing and hesitating to the point where I was convinced that something major had happened. Took it out for a couple of hours, gently at first, and then all was well.

The only thing I could think of in my situation was that I changed the oil right before storing it, and didn't have the chance to get it properly heated up after the change (the salt trucks had already taken over in my neighborhood). Not sure if condensation in the oil was to blame for the poor running in the spring, but this past winter, I put her away hot, and it's smooth as silk this spring.

Best of luck!

Dave

Put some Techron in the tank and go run it for about 2 hours. I suspect you have some varnish buildup from the fuel and it's affecting the injectors. Probably needs a good exerecising and then replace with some good fuel. Burn that old stuff out of it.

I will give the car a good run and report back. I have had trouble sourcing Techron additive in Canada, I believe it might only be available is the U.S.? In any event, the car only receives Chevron 94.

Almost certainly it is sticking injectors. Try rapping gently on them while the car is running with a plastic screwdriver handle. And use Techron as suggested.

With a car that has sat for this long, it is Techron additive in the bottle that is the Rx.

+1 another vote for BG 44K. Great stuff. Run a few tanks and then change your oil.

My point was Techron is available at chevrons in our state (plus it is in the high test gas) but more over he could buy a bottle or 2 by driving just a bit south

I'd say "concentrated" Techron, at that (this realy helped me...)

...'tis fuel or spark. Reseat that DME relay, for sure.

....probably fuel related? Some fresh oil won't hurt, at all.,

Listening?

Best,

Doyle

Two years ago, I let freshly cleaned injectors sit for about 6 weeks. Exactly 1/2 of them wouldn't fire when I started the engine. Persistent tapping as noted above got them moving. Carrera injectors do not like to sit for long. I'm going to have mine cleaned again, but not until the week prior to installing my motor.

Well after a good drive and some Techron additive the car is running better than it ever has. The stumbling and miss disappeared quickly after a good workout.
