Post Need Pic of 911 on Dyno for New 911 Engine Book...

Hey there everyone. As you probably already know, I'm working on the next book, "How to Rebuild and Modify Your 911 Engine."

I'm not going to have time to get my 911 down to the dyno shop for a picture of it on the rolling dyno.

So........... If you have a picture of your car on the dyno being tested (can be any 911 1965-89), and you would like to have it featured in the book, I would love to use your photo.

Some caveats:

- Photo must be a minimum of 1024x768 - larger size is better. The cropped size of the photo must meet this minimum. I.E. If the car occupies 50% of the picture, and the rest is border or extraneous, then I can't use it.

- The lighting has to be proper and 'look good.' About 90% of the photos I've seen on this BBS are not good enough to place in print. This includes almost all of the photos from the Engine Pic thread that was on this board previously.

- You must sign a standard permission form granting me rights to use it in the book.

The upside for you? You can say that your car is featured in the book. This may or may not increase it's value in the long run. Typically it does!

Thanks in advance,

Wayne

Wayne,

My '87 Carrera, 3.6L is a "dynapac" dyno (attached to the rear wheel hubs) right now. If you call Rick DeMan (845) 727-3070 or email him at rick@demanmotorsport.com, I'm sure he can take a couple of pix for you.

Of course, you have my permission to use any photo of the car. I don't know how long it will stay on the dyno come tomorrow, so email him or call tonight and leave a message on his voice mail (we're in NY).

Good luck with your new book (I've got my autographed copy of "101 Projects").

Rich-
I'd love to see the results of your dyno test. I am contemplating a 3.6L conversion myself. Thanks.

Mike,

I don't have the actual print out (I will probably have it tonight), but I saw the results on the screen last night . . . 258 HP at the rear wheels (about 297 at the flywheel). Torque is 241.

This is not just a straight swap (as I am reminded by my friend Bill Verburg). The 3.6L engine (circa '91) has a 993 "supersport" cam (by webcams), heavy duty valve springs and rod bolts, lightened flywheel, dual ignition (standard on all 3.6L's i think), chip, SSI's and Dansk dual in/dual out sport exhaust ("mildly" loud).

You can probably get more HP with a different exhaust set-up (i.e., headers, etc.), but this car is street driven (though, less & less it seems).

If you're not a do-it-yourselfer, you might consider having the job done at DeMan Motorsport in Nyack (demanmotorsport.com), 845-727-3070. That's where my conversion was performed and it looks like it was done at the factory.

Timmons is also on the east coast (Delaware, I think).

When I get back from Watkins Glen I'll try posting the dyno results here.
