Someone mentioned farm? That's where I learned to drive a stick on the grandparent's '52 Ford flathead.............
(And didn't want to "correct" Iceman.........just point out that if you get a chance to take an early high-compression "S" out w/ 901 box, you'll transport back to McQueen in the opening of LeMans. Only thing close I have access to now is taking the 910 out. When it's running.)

I learned to drive and shift at the same time, because I learned on a '80 Super Beetle. I took my driver's permit road test in a 1970 914-6, and my first car was a '62 356B T-6 Cabriolet. I loved that car, and it shifted like a Sears tractor but it was totally flickable and slidable around corners. I must have terrified many people now that I think about my dirt tract style of driving in those days, on my way to school in suburbia.
I don't understand complaints about shifting and stuff. You just learn each machine. I grew up working on the family farm and you sometimes have to learn in a few hours how to work a forklift, D2 Caterpillar, backhoe, front end loader, etc etc etc.....

$40k is overpriced even for an actual turbo. Drop your asking price to $25k and you may start to see some interest. At the price you're asking, you're going to own that car for a long, loooooong time.....

That document showing production numbers has errors. I know because I own a 84 Cab M491 and the doc says only 2 built but I've seen at least 5 different COAs for 84 cabs m491.
Are the cars rare, sure not many where built. But don't trust that doc it's been floating around the net for a while. I have the same doc since 2005 or so.
No matter what the car is sharp.
And I bought my 84 M491 cab in 2006 for $17K with 90K miles just for reference. The car is not perfect but is still in all original paint and looks good.

I think 1986’s are very sweet cars: First, they have the best 915 (with the changes made mid-85), they have the new dashboard and other interior improvements, new generation seats introduced in 1985, but with lower seat height (= more headroom than in -85’s) and the G50 discount!

Congrats on the sale. I love my M491, my only wish is that it was a coupe! Yours was a stunner.
There will always be a strong market for these cars as the really nice, low mileage ones don't come on the market very often. They do have a different, more "planted" driving dynamic than a narrow body Carrera.

I have an 86 M491 coupe turned track car. That's 2 / 5 and I assure you mine currently looks nothing like this car. Having said that, although you have some documentation I have heard many different "opinions" on the actual number of cars that made it out of the factory.
Beauty, less the poser badge. Good luck with sale.
