The 491 package came with the Carrera emblem in Europe, but not America. It may have been an option here, I don't know.

With Porsche, anything was an option, anything was a delete. "Turbo" on the lid excepted in this case.

The 1987-89 M491 cars came with the Carrera emblem on the decklid but it was also a delete option.

Why not? I've gone through 10 years each of 901 and 915 street and track cars before "upgrading" to to my G50 fleet. If life put me back in a torsion bar car, I wouldn't feel that things sucked so much I'd just as soon take a leap off the Golden Gate Bridge.

My 915 is just fine. Heck, I drove a Cayman for a day and about 300 miles when they first came out-the tight shifter throw and the 6 gears freaked me out. So did PSM until I turned it off!

having JUST came from a 996 6 speed with a 997 shifter in it I can say the 915 was a bit of a dissapointment - UNTIL I got used to it

Its really quite nice but a totally differant animal - I am working on my linkage right now (wevo coupler and new cups in the shift housing plus "sport" tranny and engiine mounts) Buut my old severly worn parts are not bad ---- like I said, once I got out of the 996 mode and into the 911 mode -

For four years I owned a Honda S2000 with ultra-short throws and the softest clutch imaginable. I also rented a Cayman S for a week, and for me, that's about the nicest shift linkage I've ever felt.

My 915 is very well sorted now, and I like the old-time mechanical feel. It just goes with the rest of the car. You gotta be nice and gentle with it...and remember that 5th is waaaay over to the right...but if you treat it right, it'll treat you right.
If you've never driven a good 915, I can see where you might think it's awful.

Back on topic...OP, any bites?

Coming from a 993 turbo with a G50, the 915's I've driven just feel so clunky. Guess I have to get used to them.

a 915 is the definition of "old school " .... you want to be connected to your car ? no better way than owning a 915 equiped car ..

Unless it's a 2.2S with a 901. Even with that funky clutch release, if all is working properly I still like those best of all the early cars in stock form.

and then there is the down on the farm feel of the 356 gearbox, which is like churning butter. Actually it reminds me of the old Sears riding lawnmower gearboxes.

I learned to drive stick on my Dad's 1972 Beetle.

Not a sophisticated machine...

The OP must be going crazy right about now..."What does this have to do with selling my car?!"
