I think you will find that your price is a little high for the current market conditions

I second this opinion. Here is the issue: In order to command that price the car would need 4 things:

Correct shift ****
original Monterey stereo in working order
correct badging on the rear deck lid
and lower miles than this car has (56k)...most of the cars getting the big dollars have much much lower miles. I sold a 1989 speedster with 18k on the clock in perfect condition for 59k last winter...but it was perfect!! All books, records and orginal spare tire tool kit with orginal bag and gloves.

ps: the black cover for the fan nut is missing, these are the details that make this a 40k example

But you look better when you get there!

This is off-topic, but my 1986 911 Catalog calls the Turbo-Look the "Carrera Sport Package." I'd never heard that before.

FTLs are strange beasts. Porsche made them to get a piece of the U-S aftermarket action in the mid-80s...now they occupy a kind of limbo in the 911 market.

Expensive in its time, the M491 just isn't rare or unique enough to merit major price increases. It was an option, not a separate model. 39K is putting you close to 930 territory.

This isn't to discourage you...after all, it only takes one buyer. These days, condition is everything. Good luck!

I'd say it needs better service history at that price too.

In UK you could order the M491 option as "Super Sport Equipment " till 1986 - for MJ 1987 and later the cars official where named as " SUPERSPORT"

Price - you have to know that most of the offered US-M491 leave the USA to Europe in these times, caused by the dramatic different prices and the weak Dollar - i think this car is priced for leaving ...

... and i´m pretty sure that the raise of the value will go on for the m491, when you guys will notice that only a few remained in USA ( isn´t it the same with all models to 1973 ? ) And i fear the Turbo will lose its value caused by raising gasoline prices and emission hurdles ! If you look at german markets you will find the prove for my theories ...

Best

Interesting thread since I also have a FTL, but it's one of the "more common" 213 build '85 coupes. Same exterior color, but black interior. Good luck with the sale.

I don't see the turbos losing value due to emissions / gas prices. The newest 930's are approaching "antique" status and won't be subject to emissions in most states anyway. Classics like the 930 that are a true staple in automotive history don't lose value because gas prices rise....Escalades and H2's do....

M491's are rare "versions" of the 911 but, as an owner of one, they aren't worth turbo $$$.

Off topic, but what's consensus for tinted windows in a car this model year and color?

Thanks,
Rick

I think the tint looks good on this one-ties in with the black trim bits. Whatever floats one's boat, I'd say.

Dark black all the way around with a windshield tint strip. I believe mine is 20%. It will not look as dark with the tan interior, but it is pretty dark and matches the black window trim nicely.

Here is mine (Guards Red with tan interior, though I have black Wet Okole seat covers on the front seat).

I could be wrong but 491 optioned cars came with nothing on the decklid, Carrera or Turbo. My neighbor has three 491 cars. None of them have have an emblem. Please correct me if I have made a mistake. Also Yahoo groups have a Turbo Look section, although most of them are waxers .........
