Default Advice Wanted Re Brake Pads

I have a 1978 SC and I'd like to improve the stopping power without going to a serious brake conversion. I've already put in ss brake lines and planning to replace the brake fluid with Castrol SRF. I'd also like to replace the brake pads with something that will perform a little better. This car will be driven both on nice 2-lane backroads as well as some track time for DE days. I'd like to get advice on a compromise pad. Thanks in advance.

Performance Friction 97 Compound are a nice choice.

Thanks. How do you like them for spirited 2-lane driving? Do they work well enough at the lower temps?

The last time the forum compared notes, it seemed that Porterfield and Pagid were the top street/ autocross pads. The next step up would be quite a bit more expensive. I was considering bhp pads until I found a great price on Centric/PBR Ultimate Ceramic pads. I like them but they do make a lot of dust.

The PF 97's do need some heat in them to work. They are not bad on the street, but they do squeal a bit when cold.

I would not recommend using the track pads-Pagid, PFC etc for daily use. The all will make alot of noise and will wear down rotors quicker. I would use different pads for daily & track, swapping the pads do not take that much time. FYI, watch out for the brakecrete with the 97's.

Porterfield R4S. They are great cold or hot. I even use them on the track, but I have pretty big brakes. For stock sizes, I do not think they recommend them for continuous track use, but they are fine for AX. Don't waste money on the Castrol, but do spend the few extra $ for Motul RBF600. It is head and shoulders above ATE.

Thanks everyone. After all of your advice and independent research I'm leaning toward Pagid RS 4-2-1 pads. They are supposed to be a good street/light track use compromise pad. Any thoughts?
