Default Brake Fluid all Over

I was at autocross under hard breaking when the pedal dropped a couple of inches. It was about the last run. The brakes were not that hot and the fluid is new. On the way home the pedal went to the floor. Lots of brake fluid under the car and the master cylinder was about dry.

I filed the master cylinder and went limping around the neighborhood. A hard stab will apply some brake but it goes to the floor. No fluid at the wheels. After parking there was a puddle under the middle of the car.

Master cylinder itself looks okay. What are the chances of breaking a line right out of the master.

If I boiled the fluid a fill and bleed should fix it...

It the pressure got too high what would brake first.

Ideas.......

I'd need a lot more details but offhand, it sounds like the MC failed.

You didn't say what year car you have nor how many miles are on it and those things are important for useful troubleshooting,..

G'day Batman,
I can't offer any explanation for your particular problem but once on my 74 targa the brake pipe mounting bracket that's welded to the macpherson strut broke off, then the flex of the rubber pipe was transfered to the metal pipe and before too long the metal pipe had fractured and I lost all the fluid.
Next time I needed them............well, thank God for the hand brake..

It's an 82 SC. 195,000 miles very good condition. I just had the brakes checked by a realiable shop. They replaced the hoses and chenged the fluid. All stops were good unitl the failure.

i would think obviously soemthing has ruptured ,, fingd the source of the leak .. there lies your answer. My guess is they went right to the floor when bleeding the brakes and now you MC seal has failed

^^^^That would be my guess^^^^

Was the reliable shop versed in Porsches? The other thing would be if they had lines off at the M/C and didn't put something back together correctly.

It doesn't sound like a bad MC. You have a leak in the system, try and find it. No amount of bleeding will fix it.

This happened to me and it was one of the lines coming out of the MC, right after I'd had the MC replaced...

If the m/c went, it could have the same symptoms as described. It is entirely possible. But, it could be something else.

The shop is a Porsche only place and has a very good reputation. I can't tell exactly where the fluid is coming from. It looks like there is also some fluid on the pedals. There is not any fluid on the MC. I hope to get it towed to the shop tomorrow.

I think it is the turbo twist wheels causing the issues. See if the shop can change them....

Batman, I think from the picture that is Bob Dumont's in OKC. He will be able to tell what failed. If the internal rubber of the MC went south, that's probably why the pedals are wet. Just my guess.
