Definitely some money spent, but when were phone dials an upgrade?

Maybe it had gold plated dubs on it before.

Car sounds nice other than the wheels, where are the pictures?

sweet car as described. I don't think phonies came on that car, but a really cool car. I would look at an 86 before any other Carrera if I were buying.
Post some pictures and you very well may find a buyer right here on Rennlist.

15"'s were stock...16"'s are the upgrade.

the Cambermeister might be a strut brace rather than a sway bar. If so, then you'll see a bar in the front trunk that connects the two upper strut areas.

I think you may be talking about the Fuchs. Not phone dials.
Some pics will help.

My reference source for the telephone dial wheels is Peter Morgan's "Original Porsche 911...The Restorer's Guide to all Production Models 1963-93; page 87 reads as follows, " At the time of its introduction, the Carrera's standard wheels were the 15" "telephone dial" cast alloy type with five oval holes around the center. The familiar Fuchs alloys were still available as an option. The 16" wheels remained an option with the same size tires as before, although they were standard on the Club Sport."

Personally I prefer the phone dial wheels for the following reasons....rarity, looks great on the car, easy to clean/maintain and the 16"'s drive really well. By the way, the only exterior mod are the "bullet" side view mirrors as opposed to the "flags."

The car looks great. Is that an '84 speedometer?

Very nice looking car. Sounds like some good work has been done recently as well.

It is funny that although the phone dial became the standard wheel in '84 (replacing the cookie cutter), there are few 911s sporting them. Although Fuchs are THE look for most, I find the phonies give a really nice period (i.e. 80s) feel to the car. The colored-crest caps are a nice touch too.

Those cloth seats are great, I have always liked the diagonal script cloth...

amjf088...that is EXACTLY my point as well about the wheels..and the look of the car overall. I hate to give up the car...the way it drives is phenomenal. My first P car was an 89 speedster and I've owned an 89 anniversary coupe followed by a 87 cab. I'm with whalebird...the 86 is the 3.2 to drive and with the mods, is truly awesome.

Edit: I think it's coming back to me. The '84 had a continuous circle that was white. The later years had a continuous circle that was sort of grey or darker than white.

Other than the G-50, and revised dme map, what sets the '86 apart?

In all fairness, my two 89's and the 87 were stock; the money spent on this car was purely to improve the quality of the driving experience. Many prefer the feel of the 915 transmission vs. the softer feeling of the G-50. I'm not saying one is better than the other...simply a personal preference.

Interesting quote from my reference source, as follows: "The main reason for the change to the G-50 was that the 915 gearbox was expensive compared to other units."

Nice looking car, but would look much better with some Fuchs to these eyes. Also I cam say with some certainty that those are not factory CS seats. The script seats are nice, though.

86 had a number of differances. I can't remeber them all. i researched this a good bit years ago and found that there were updates to the chassis, bearings and axles, weight and power IIRC. Slight updates over the previous cars. I would have to dig into it some more to refresh my memory, but I strongly remeber my conclusion as being that an 86 is a remarkable Carrera.
Script seats are awesome. The porshe center in Atlanta has script cloth on all of their Recaro office furniture - it's pretty cool. The fabric is hard to come by.
