Default I am a new owner! Question re: fuel

2006 911 S. My 3rd porsche (previous were 914 and 944) and i am really excited to have my dream car finally. Filled up today and was surprised to see the car calls for 93 octane. I dont know where to get that!? In San Diego I only see 91 Octane. Have I been missing something? Is 93 Octane critical to the car's performance or do others use 91?

You will be fine with 91 octane.

In the future, use the 997 Forum.

You can use 91 but your performance will be reduced as Porsche tuned the car for 93 R+M/2 and 98RON.

Mix some 100 octane unleaded and you'll see what it can do,...

The VP station in Rancho Santa Fe has 100 all the time for $8.99/gallon.

Its fun to see the Lambos go there and fill up. I got off easy, I only got 1/4 tank at a time.

I am more concerned with the ethanol in current gas on the fuel system in my SC. Their rubber and plastic parts were designed long before the idiots decided that corn was for fuel and not food and it will, over time damage injection systems on our prized toys.

Standard high test/ supreme will be fine, but Chevron Chevron Chevron. Cant stress that enough. Then once a year do a Techron treatment. Basically 1oz. per gallon of fuel. Porsche had a world wide tech bulletin describing this in about 1987 under the title "Cleaning fuel injection system" Chevron Chevron Chevron

what is a Chevron ? never even heard of it .. isn't that one of those Army stripe things ? From an international perspective I woyuld think Shell would be the way to go in Canada.. no ethanol in it's high grade and definitely our newer car guyss see less black deposits on their pipes when running the shell.

Chevron is the old "Standard Oil Company". It makes gas. No funny stuff in it.

Yep. Chevron seems to follow it's own path. It is the only gas used by many auto makers when they are developing and testing new cars. I've wondered if Texaco now has the same gas as Chevron, since Chevron bought Texaco.
