Got the cam drive hardware, chainboxes and head/camtower units off today. Also pulled the clutch which looks spectacular considering it is 17,000 miles and 5 years old. I really goofed up. I didn't pull the dowel pin from the cam sprocket like I meant to before pulling the sprocket. Well, lo and behold I immediately remembered it, and it was MIA. I was sorely disappointed in myself. I quickly tipped the motor on end, and reached into the case with my magnetic pickup to try and snag it. Nothing. I tapped on the bottom of the case gently to try and dislodge it. Nothing. Right about when I got into some good vocabulary, it came rolling out of the case and onto the ground. Unbelievable. Got to be more careful!!
I'm travelling again this week, so no progress until next Saturday. I'll take the heads apart then, and get a plan together for cleaning them. I'll probably take them to a shop for cleaning. I may then put the new p's and c's in too.

Indeed those are Doug. Simply some copper pipe held on by a head nut. Porsche actually makes a set of tools for this, but my guess is that the $3 or 4 I have wrapped up in these is less.
I really don't need them until I put the new ones in. The idea is to keep the cylinders in place as you rotate the crank while installing the P's and C's.

Ed looks like things are moving along. I would like to stop by and check things out. I work thursday and saturday this week, sounds like your traveling. If you are going to be in the garage on any of the other days let me know, I can bring beer!

So what are Ps and Qs?
Aherm...sorry Ed. I mean, is the left side (engine left, not photo left) chain tensioner close to fully extended? Cant tell, but it looks out there.
