HELP: Strange option code - #XM4 - wood dash???
Well, it's not a dire emergency, but I have a friend looking at a '89 930 that the seller claims has a factory wood dash. I don't know a ton about 911s, but apart from some early cars, I don't remember ever seeing one with a wood dash. I told my buddy that the seller was out of his mind, that there was no way they put a wood dash in at the factory... but when I had someone run the VIN, the car did have a strange exclusive option code on it:
XM4 F INSTR.TRAEG/SCHALTTAF.WURZELH. DUNK
I've searched in books and all over option code sites for info on this option code and can't find anything. I've also searched for pics or info on factory wood dashes in 911s and have come up with nothing. Add to that my crappy German abbreviation translation skills, and I'm left totally confused.
So I have two questions:
1. What is this option code?
2. Does anyone have any pictures of a late model 911 with a wood dash, either from the factory or aftermarket?
Thanks in advance!

It is entirely possible. Special wishes program would get you about anything you wanted. I've seen one other 911 that was purported to have a factory wood dash.

It's this last "XM4" option that is the one I've never seen before. Any German speaking RL'ers out there???

Translated it means Instrument antisurge/switching root... Something (Dunk may be loosely translated as dark (dunkel)).
I'm guessing it s a dark rootwood instrument trim.

A lot of this stuff happens at the dealer using factory parts, or even aftermarket parts. Is this option code on the car itself or is it a statement from the owner? I would expect the factory would usually carry this through to the E-brake handle and door trim

yeah, that option code is not something that you'd get if you made a visit to Automotion or Beverly Hills Motoring Accessories.
It looks like a nice job if one likes wood trim. If you look on the Porscheusa website, the PET lists a lot of M#### option numbers, none starting with "X".
Out of curiosity, how did you get the build sheet?

BTW, I used to live on Poinsettia just off of Rosecrans. Now in Redondo. Where are you?

As for the build sheet... if you're really nice to the people at Suncoast they will pull one for you if you provide a VIN. Don't tell them I told you though!

Looks like a clean car. I'm not familiar with the 930 market, so I don't know about price, but I guess it seems fair.
I had someone run the VIN for me at Suncoast, but if you can give me anymore information, I'm all ears.
VIN is: WP0EB0935KS070520
Thanks guys!

Not my style, but no sport seats? Pretty common on heavily opted turbos. The chrome ruins it in my opinion. Anyway...The wood is a bit perculiar. I agree with you Gonzilla - the interior trim is piece by piece if buying it from a dealer, or special order, but if factory done, I like to think it would be inclusive throughout. Just a guess.
