1981 Porsche 911 SC Targa - Welcome
#16
Congrats. Watch for breaking head studs, a particular issue on lower mileage cars. I bought my 78 SC a few years ago with a reported 44,000 miles. I believe it to be original. It now has 55,000 and a broken head stud. Discovered about 1.5 years ago when beginning my 2nd valve adjustment. I parked it since then. I haven't been able to get to pulling the engine, yet.

Whalebird: Funny you should mention Franz Blam. Tom has been a good friend over the years. They lowered my 964 a few years ago.... I wanted to do it myself, but I just could not get the leverage on the bolts. A few years ago they let my boyscout troup hang out in the pits before one of the Lemans races. My son has flying lizards all over the room.
I'm glad the PO used the steering wheel protector... all the threads on the steering wheel are in perfect condition.
Good note on the studs.... I was reading a thread on Pelican the other day about that... it is a real slippery slope which I will enjoy sharing in the future. You know how it begins... Pull the engine so you can clean things up and fix a few seals... while I'm there.... check the studs (I know the exhaust studs will need to be replaced already)... and then all of a sudden your upgrading to 3.2 and that means a bottom end check....
Yes, this car is going to be fun.
Thanks for the input guys.

I don't think asking for pics of a new car here is being a *****. It is kind of a time-honored rite of passage. Besides, iceman seems to be the one who gets to be a ***** first on these requests, I'm just glad I beat him to the punch this time.
