But Ruby is worth it Ed, not a aftermarket conversion that has no uniqueness or
rarity.

Just for grins & giggles price a headlight washer fluid reservoir, at your P-car dealer, for a factory slant nose 3.2 liter Carrera. If they're NLA let me know and I'll tell you a story!

Was that a factory Targa slant? Turbo Targas in stock form aren't that common. One of the posters in my garage is of a Carrera Targa Turbo-stock front end. The wide body is a good look on a Targa, IMO.

EDIT-Just reread the post rusnak, that has to be one of few factory slant Targas. If you ever get the opportunity to post a pic or two of her, I'd like to see it.

Thanks for the thought, but the reality is she isn't worth much to anyone but me. Although parting her out could yield decent $

I'd think Ruby would offer more bang for the buck than the bastard SC, but the reality is I'm so upside down in her, I will probably be buried in her. I just hope it isn't off the side of Palomar Mtn! She's definitely a money-grabbing girl that always will want something new and better.

Ed, you are not alone I've had my 75 since 1980, and last year soaked a bunch of money into it. A number of critics thought I was crazy to pump money into a car that wasn't a desirable year for Porsche. But it was my car, and to have it done correctly I had to pay. So I feel you, it may not be worth what I got into it, but it is worth something to me.

What a joke. I can't stand slope nose conversions. The originals were hand made and have a place in Porsche history(a couple have a place in my heart). The front fenders started life as standard turbo fenders and were worked into shape by hand - cool. The fins inside the rear fenders were wood. Heim-jointed tie rods...the list is big. Pete nailed it - That car has been wrecked - before the slant crap was hung on it.

There was a 993 Ruf conversion-done at the Ruf dealership/shop in Dallas, I think-that sold for 62K last night. That woulda been a fun car and more bang for the buck than this abomination.

Have you guys read "Keith Martin's Guide to Car Collecting"? Good throne material...entertaining no doubt but my main purpose for bringing it up is the section re: auctions..specifically "no reserve" auctions. I can't believe the bull **** that goes on with respect to "acceptable" protocol for stuff like house bids, seller bids, etc...seems like you'd be better at a straight auction with reserve. I really wouldn't be surprised if at least some of these high sales prices don't actually trade. Sounds like the auction house can pretty much do as they please....

Looks like Russo and Steele took a good hit. Lots of cars damaged somehow. They usually have some nice ones.

Hi Ed:

OK, I'll ask him the next time I'm over there. I left my battery charger at his house.

I'm told that it is one of less than 50 made and shipped to the U.S.

Yes, it's an original factory slant, turbo, Targa....and it is very very nice. He also has a 993 TT, some old Bimmers, and a nice black 928S4.

The RUF car sold for 70k and I would bet big time that it’s a shill bid. The stories that "leak" out of the B-J media crew are hysterical. Tons of stuff written on fraud bidding shill bidding, owner bidding and all sorts of game playing. B-J does not cars since they are collecting the entrance fee (plus whatever grease money they take on the side to get your car in) plus the buyers and sellers fees.

I remember a couple of years ago they had one media guy escorted off the premises because he sent in an article to his publication about some of the BS games that go on there.

I know a guy with 2 factory slants. Both cabs: black/black with white seats/black piping, the other white/black/black. Now I've never been attracted to a turbo cab, or even a slantnose for that matter, but if I were a man of means and had a collection, that Black "tuxedo" slant would be mine, it was a 5 speed too IIRC. That sweet 930S steering wheel, top down and a built motor pushing hard sounds like fun to me.

I've never really wanted a slant, but for a collection a must-have for me would be a factory Slant Turbo Coupe, in any color as long as it was red or black. A Ruf 5-speed would complete the car nicely!

Yep, this is mentioned in post 39.
