Default OMG!!! Just Stumbled on This

88 Targa. One owner. 48k original miles. $17.5k. Service by one shop only.

I know, what's wrong with it? I'm gonna find out for sure.

Looks like a completely unmolested example. Worth investigating.

One shop? Low mileage? All the other little details looking good? no crash? no paint? Looking very good right there.

Other stuff: Fuel lines wear out. That tranny needed a bunch of service updates to be performed. Those are pre power assist brakes, they have some problems: check service records for master cylinder and caliper and hoses. Windshield gasket and rear windows in corners known to leak when old.

Guy says he works for a Chevy dealership, but bought this from the owner himself to re-sell. So technically it's a 2 owner car.

Yes the tail was removed, but is sold with the car.

Asked to contact original owner to learn more about history, but was told he wanted his contact info not to be given out. Guess that's not too unusual.

Actually all Carreras do have power brakes - but the master cylinders car sometimes give problems. But then of course there are a whole list of possible problem areas - from valve guides to fuel lines that COULD crop up. A good PPI should identify if any of that applies here.

That car looks like a worthwile candidate. The condition of the steering wheel and the engine compartment both suggest the mileage is believable.

Pity about the tail though... It would have been nicer to have an un-drilled decklid.

For the asking price I can live with the deck lid. Maybe even put the tail back on. By the way, how are the tails installed?

I think anybody who lovingly cared for this car for over twenty years would LOVE to speak with the new owner.

+1. I think the dealer will share the name after the deal is done so his profit is protected.

BTW, the title will show who is the previous owner. You can then contact him/her on your own.

AFAIK, Power brakes started in 1988. This car should have them. I don't know. (not my problem ) Anyway, Randy Leffingwell says the brake problems didn't go away until 1990. Buyer should look into brake maintenance.

The car does have them and they started before 1988. There is no "problem" with brakes on Carreras. Switches do need to be replaced every 20 or more years perhaps, and improper bleeding by fully depressing the pedal can hose up the internal seal. Other than that, they are fine.

Nice car, you guys are wrong a dealer cannot give out personal information unless the dealer contacts the PO and gets his/her approval. If no approval is given by PO than guess what you do not get the info. It would be best to try and find it on your own as mentioned.

My 78 has vacuum boosted (power) brakes. I'm not sure about 1977. You might mean 1978.
