Default Tire options for 16s. Need to order today

Was told Michelin pilot sport not avail for 205/55/16 & 225/50/16 combination. Not sure if the lower level exulto are any good. Looking for summer tires in warm weather region that has a nice thread pattern. Thanks in advance.

Choices are really getting thin for 15s and 16s. You might have better luck if you go with 205/50-16 on the fronts.

I would stick with the 205/55 on the fronts. I don't like the Michelins myself - had a set on my benz and was disappointed. I replaced with Falken ziex and was nicely surprised. Bridgestones are hard to beat in most cases.

I totally agree. Go with 205/55/16 and 225/50/16 if you can. The problem with tire availablility has been mostly with the 245/45/16 size.

I love the Bridgestone Z and VR rated tires in the Pole Position family of tires. See if you can get S-03 tires. If not, second choice would be the S-02, but make sure that you get the Z or V rated, not H rated tires.

I had to switch to Fuzion or something like that for my 911, and for me the jury is still out on them.

It is funny how different your answers were to the same question that you posted on Pelican.

I am new here. Just bought an 84 coupe that needs tires too. Anyone try the BF Goodrich g-force Super Sport A/S tires?

I'll do an intro thread as soon as I can figure out why my photo won't upload.

Thanks

Ice, i have an 84 coupe as well. Someone at pelican recommended the bfg. many liked the Dunlop direzza(sp?). You should read the latest tire rack review on performance tires; very helpful.

From the current selection of tires available, from Tire Rack, the Dunlop Direzza Star Specs seem to be the best in terms of high performance, though they are strictly warm weather tires. I recently ordered some for the 944 Turbo but have not driven on them. They have excellent reviews, however, and compare favorably to the competition on Tire Racks website. I also read a recent article on them where they came in first. My 911 doesn't need tires now but I plan to get these when it does.

If you are considering all seasons, though, handling is not as high a priority. So, the Goodrich tires would be OK. Tire Rack really has a good website that allows you to select all the tires that fit your car, based on criteria, then compare individual tires that you select. I'd go that route.

One word of caution regarding mail order tires. If there is a problem with the order, then you'll blow the entire savings and then some on shipping them back to the seller.

I like the convenience of Tire Rack, but found that the $40 or so that I'd save by going with Tire Rack is better spent at my local tire and wheel shop. I get free tire re-balancing, and I'd have had to pay for the tire disposal, mount, balance, etc anyway. Another problem that I've had over and over with Tire Rack is that they do not direct UPS to leave the damn tires at my front door. I live in an area where the tires would be safe to leave at my doorstep, but if I want the tires delivered, they have to be dropped at the office, and then I have to load them up and take them home. And one of the quirks of UPS is that the delivery driver is an independent contractor, and can elect to just not leave my order at my house if he doesn't feel like it.
