Default Ultra-clean '87 coupe found for sale in NorCal

Greetings all -

Rennlisters have been super helpful in my ongoing quest to build the ultimate Porsche spec database, so I'm giving a little back today.

I checked out this car today at a local Sacramento used car dealer, and on the face of it this looks like a pretty exceptional example.

http://www.legendauto.net/VehicleDetails/561550283

Its an early build date 1987 coupe (9/86), in Cassisrot Metallic with Burgundy interior (800 9 3 F 9). Its a 82,000 mile car that's being sold for a friend of the dealership. It appears this gentleman has owned the car for some time, I only found evidence of 2 owners. It was originally sold in San Francisco and serviced at Carlsen Porsche, then the owner history switches to the Sacramento Valley area in 1989 and it appears to have remained here ever since.

It has the warranty/service booklet stamped until 1994. Past that there were no service records on hand at the dealership, but with the dealer's relationship to the owner I imagine the records could be easily sourced. Original owner's manual is intact.

Inside and out this car really looks terrific. The showroom was dimly lit, so there may be some flaws that sunlight would reveal, but the paint looked to be in excellent shape. There were a few repaired stone chips on the hood, and the typically peppered lower valence, but past that it looked very well cared for. There was mild orange peel throughout, but it was consistent in texture over all the paint surfaces....is that typical for a factory finish? No rust was discovered anywhere, although I did not have the car on a lift. The interior is in similarly excellent shape, with all surfaces looking good and no rips or tears that I saw.

Option codes are as follows:

018 - Sport steering wheel with elevated hub
158 - Radio, Blaupunkt Reno SQR 46
286 - High intensity windscreen washer
288 - Headlight washer
341 - Central locking
395 - Light metal wheels forged
437 - Full power seat - left
438 - Comfort seat - right
454 - Cruise control
473 - Front and rear spoilers
474 - Sport shock absorbers - Bilstein
650 - Sunroof
975 - Velour carpet in luggage compartment

It has a front strut tower brace. The rear shocks are yellow Bilsteins but the fronts are a brand I couldn't identify and were green (Boge?). Ride height has a noticeable front to rear rake.

There's evidence of a very light weep at the bottom of the right side rocker cover, as well as some old leak evidence at the crankcase seam. It shows recently fitted rear sway bar bushings. Other than that, the underside and engine compartment are almost spotless.

In the interior I couldn't operate the secondary driver's seat power controls, but that may have been due to a low-ish battery charge. The seatback flip lever was missing as well. All lights worked. It comes with what looks to be an aftermarket stereo head unit (Renos didn't have detachable faces, did they?), and Boston Acoustics speakers in the rear deck. The car has a period Hofco alarm and OKI Cell phone installed. The front trunk area is extremely clean like everything else, with the velour carpet in excellent shape and the spare appears unused.

I didn't find any evidence of accident damage, but I am NOT a professional and if it was hit and lovingly repaired I could see that getting past me. One thing I did notice was that the left front bumper impact absorber bow (911 505 223 00) appeared noticeably newer than the right side, and the bolt securing it was different as well. No other evidence of front end damage though, so that's something to ask about on a PPI. Tires are Jurassic period Yokohama S306.

I did not start it up or drive it. I'm sure I could do that if any Rennlisters are interested, PM me.

Overall this is one of the nicest G50 coupes I've seen for sale in a long long time, in a relatively unique color combination. Pass the word around, the impression I got is that a quick deal could be made on this car. PM me for good shops in Sacramento that could perform a PPI if interested.

Cheers,
-Mirror

I love it when a dealer sells financing as a means to buy a 23 year old sub-$20k car. Just what this country needs now, more unnecessary debt.

I think this was an early Martina Navritilova factory order car! I think Victory was selling a 964 look alike a few weeks back (and has been for several months)

No doubt, the phone is pretty shagadelic! It also has a power-on tone that sounds like an air-raid siren. Almost shot me through the roof its so loud.

Cassis Red is one of my all time favorite Porsche Colors,, yea I am a strange dude, but my 911's are odd colors green. That looks like a decent deal so long as the car PPi's well. Love the period correct wheels and phone. You would need to lower that car, its set for off roading.

Logan, thats an nice looking car but the seller is in fantasy land on the price.

Here is the same car with 1/2 the miles and a lot lower price. This one is a heck of a deal I dont really want a cab.

Definetly not on fantasy land with price, very good price for a g50 coupe with under a 100k miles assuming everything is ok.
This cab does not have 1/2 the miles, and coupes generally are more valuable(supply/demand)
Both these cars are a good price, my guess is because of color. I personally would not by this car because of color, regardless of price/condition, and im generally not very picky with colors.

Nice price....I could even get used to the exterior color....unless the camera tainted the interior color I would go nuts having to sit and look at that all the time...but hey...that's what makes markets!
