I've seen a couple of decently priced rebuilt motors on eBay from MotorMeisters. anyone have an opinion on this group. I'm thinking of upgrading the 3.0 to a 3.2. any help is appreciated
thanks

Get something to eat and drink and then do a search on Pelican. Be prepared to read for a long time.

Beware of them. As stated, go to Pelican and read the many write-ups.

The good news is you asked first! There is no free lunc when it comes to Porsche engines, as these crooks would lead you to believe. Enjoy your reading on the subject.

Now, with the money you just saved, get a Rennlist membership and paypal the rest of us equal amounts of 1/2 the money you would've paid for one of their abortion engines. You still get to keep a chunk of change!

Funny how MM threads pop up on a fairly regular basis.

Hey whiskey,
Do as already advised: read up on these guys ...real charlatans (and that's putting it politely). And Ed H. is right on with no free lunch with 911 engines. They are stupid-expensive to rebuild or even crack open when done by a skilled guy who knows his 911s, but the offset to that is they are remarkably reliable, especially under track duress for which they are designed to eat up, smile, and ask for more. No way to shortcut high-quality components, skilled machining, and meticulous assembly. Glad you asked first!

a huge Thank You to everyone. my 81 SC has 172k miles with no rebuild and still pulls strong, but I know I'm on borrowed time. I will start my "rebuild fund" immediately. there are some very reputable shops here in middle NC.
thanks again

Why do you think the motor is on borrowed time?
I would only be concerned if it started burning oil.

It is finally broken in now

if you are at all concerned check to make sure your head studs are all intact, have a leakdown test done and monitor your oil usage .. if it is all good then you have nothing to be worried about ... if you want to do some PM have your tensioners checked and change your chain ramps .. other than that you should be good ..

well looks like you guys are right again. the leak down test came back fine. a couple of very minor leaks around the oil temp sender were easily fixed. looks like I'm set for the new season at the track.

one other question - the oil breather hose on the top right side of the engine seems to be collapsed and stiff. should I get this fixed asap or is this normal?
thanks again to everyone. this forum is a great help!!

if you ae talking about the hose that runs from the oil tank to the back of the intake that is not normal. I would replace it . it is fairly cheap and is a DIY. a bit akward but can be done.
