Default Chain Tensioner Spacers

I did the tensioner upgrade and did not install the spacer between the tensioner and the engine. I noticed a slight gap on the right side but did not think anything of it until coming across this post while passing time tonight: https://rennlist.com/forums/911-foru...vil-noise.html (post 6). This is a question for those who have done this upgrade and made the same mistake: what will happen if I leave it as is? From the looks of it I think I should be good as is. the funny thing is there is no space on the left side which is why I over looked it on the right side. Thanks in advance for your help.

I'd do it right, if there is a gap, it isn't good.

One more question: is it neccesary to prime the tensioners before I start the engine? If so, how do I go about doing this? I was going to pull the ignition coil wire and crank the car a few times to get the oil circulating....does that sound good or should I just start it like normal?

I prime them by pumping while submerged in oil.

Alignment of the chains and sprockets is critical to longevity.

Default I am Little Confused...Help!

I assumed since my car was a 1980 it had the early idler arms and needed the spacers for the tensioner upgrade...well the spacers arrived and things don't line up right at all...can someone tell me which type of idlers I have? Thanks in advance

This is the original space that I was referring to:

It sucks if i overreacted I could have been on the road Christmas eve....better safe than sorry i guess

the PET on Porscheusa.com has been down all day, but when it comes back up, you can check it there.

I put safety collars in mine, hydraulics have failed from time to time.

Just before it crashed, I noticed that the sprockets all have 901 parts numbers, but there were several types of idler arms. And Ice is right, the spacer sleeve went away after '84. I guess I would buy the new idler arms with the chain tensioners, but keep the sprocket. Still, check alignment carefully.

They don't. The trick I picked up, as one that some pros use, is to cut a length of bronze bushing (can't remember diameter-1/2-3/4"?) long enough to keep slack out in case of failure and insert it into the bottom of the cylinder, which limits plunger travel.

A couple $, and 20 minutes for a bit of peace of mind.

got everything back together and took her for her maiden voyage...so far so good...the top right inner ramp had completely come apart ...the chatter from that is gone...so is the banging around of the loose pieces under the chain cover (I had no idea what it was, it would come and go so i just ignored it...in hind sight I was very lucky the pieces decided to "hide" behind the right side tensioner instead of wreak havoc...
