Default 911 shopping confusion

I've started looking for a used 911 Cab/Targa to be a daily drive for about 9 mos out of the year. My confusion is this. After reading articles, websites, and a couple of books (including Peter Zimmerman's) I'm getting the impression that a 964 or 993 might not be up to the DD task, and I'm better off looking for a used SC or 3.2. Are these just perceptions because the older 911s are also great cars, or are the newer models more expensive but not as reliable even if they are well maintained? Will get a PPI whichever direction I go, but I'm looking for the best target models to start my search. Budget probably fits in the SC to 964 range.

Thanx for your input

Robert

I've Run all three. 3.2, 964 and 993 as DD.
3.2 has a huge trunk by comparison to 964/993 and more frugal and pretty simple mechanically.
964 are good as a DD it has more modern bits ..... well relatively. Go for the C2, C4 weighs a lot more.
993 you'll get precious about where you park it.
