Nice!

I wonder if the brushes are accessible too? I found a box of motor brushes yesterday at a gem of an old country hardware store.

Yes they are but are not the cause of the noise.
Once you're in there, you'll figure how to check them.
Easy, remove the little spring retainer and pull them out.

Ian, great post / step by step photos. Another project to keep me busy on weekends

When I got my car this summer the foot blowers didn't work at all got some used ones and while they work fine they do squeak / squeel for a couple of minutes until the hot air passing through warms them up.

Thanks

That was great info. Thanks for the post.

I may do this tomorrow. Do you recall if the bearings can be replaced? That seems to be the permanent fix.

Why do the fans squeal? One reason is that the blowers slide down the fan shaft and rub/bind on the scroll case. Take the fan appart and do what you like, but make sure the fan is as high up the shaft as it will go without binding on the upper fan housing. Mine were noisy, did this and they're fine now.

I took mine apart, cleaned em, and lubed with some Tri-Flow. I "glued" the cage back on with some LocTite to hopefully keep in place.
