Hi Grant:

Having owned one of each, I'd really recommend that you buy that Carrera RS book printed in Germany (its in English). If you are predisposed to buy one of these cars, there is not a better resource of documentation for these cars about equipment and each VIN number.

Very quickly, the touring version of the RS was equipped just like the 911S of the same vintage. The lightweights had thinner sheet metal (in places), lighter seats, thinner glass, fiberglass bumpers, no right side sunvisor, no clock, thin carpets, no rear seat, plastic gas tank, alloy front crossmember, etc.

The weight difference was approximately 250 lbs depending on the car.

Hello

The "RS Bible" was written by Dr. konradsheim. I think the link to the book is.

Hello

RS prices are hard to fix but be prepared that a "good" ( good in my eyes is a new car for others ) car is in the pricelevel from a new 996 while a perfect car equals a new 996 TT.
Right now the estimate to repair a complete totaled RS ( not from scratch but near ) is around the 500 000€ level.

Real Lightwights are around 10% abouve the RS lux
A average RS is in the pricelevel from a boxster.
Cars with special history are out of any pricesheme.

Be sure to make your homework and make sure you are not going to buy a replica for the real money.

However there is nothing wrong with making or owning a RS clone.

A good and easy clue for a real 73SC are the rear wings. The RS had a special curved lip without the "edge" later 74on SC cars had. Those fenders are nLA since year and replicating them is very expensive so most people restore a RS or make replicas with normal SC fenders.

If it is a original RS( proofable) it will deduct the value about the price to correct that.

Dr Konradsheim is also in the carbiz his Porschesite is www.konradsheim.at

I think he still stocks some RS ( including ex. Wolfgang Porsches personal car )or knows people with RS.

Well as a techadvisor I like to be neutral but if you are serious interesstet in shoping a car I work for a company who is mainly in the Resto RS buiz. ( Dr. Konradsheim will know me and the company )
