Maxman,

The posters above are spot on in their advice. If money is no object, we suggest a Carrera over an SC if the cars have the same mileage and are in the same condition. However, since you have a budget that you are sticking to and flexibility as far as what you want is concerned, we recommend you select a car that has been cared for mechanically primarily. If either model has had a rebuild by a reputable shop (this is key, as a rebuild by an inexperienced individual can become a venture in rebuilding a rebuild), mileage is not quite as influential when it comes to striking a particular car from your search. If you land on a car that has or is approaching 100k and has not had the valve guides and head studs addressed, be on the look out for those issues.

Of course, make sure to get a PPI before buying. Also, the more records you have access to, the better, but in saying this one also has to be realistic. The car that mlk118s sold above is ideal, but if you search for cars that only have records from new, your pool will be a very small (and possibly pricey) one. Instead, try to buy a car that is known in it's given community and by a particular shop. Both of these factors usually prove reliable when it comes to selecting your new-to-you 911. Happy shopping!
