My legs interfered with the steering wheel too. I changed to a Momo MOD 08 which is slightly smaller in diameter and has a large amount of dish (~3") which moves the wheel back (and up) enough that my legs now fit.

Thanks again everyone! If I could be certain the smaller steering wheel and/or raised
hub would allow me to fit I'd buy the 1988 Targa I test drove yesterday. It really is in fantastic
shape with complete documentation, even a "certificate of authenticity" from Porsche. This
particular car was the subject of an article in a car mag because of the professional installation
of a very high end stereo system. I suppose I should test drive another one or two to see if there is
a bit more leg room than this one has. Everything is "stock" in this one so I don't know why it
is cramped. As you can tell, I REALLY like this particular 911 !! :-)

I am not that tall, but I do know that it is possible to reinstall the seat further back in the car (not sure if this requires drilling the rails, or whether there are additional holes already there). If you like the car, I would ask the mechanic who does a PPI what he thinks.

More impressive is that I am 5'10 with a 32" inseam and I have all kinds of room. I can move forward and back but I still feel like I am 127 years old when I try to get out of my 88 Targa
AMFJ008 that interior is really nice....Beautiful

specifically left side. Porsche enhanced structure on bottom side of targas and cabs to make up for no roof. When I had my targa I often had the urge to stretch my leg because it felt cramped in there. Now I have a coupe...much better. Im vertically challenged by the way

I feel your pain!! I am 6'7" with a 36" inseam, and have had a gorgeous 1989 targa for 10 years. It has the extended wheel hub which is absolutely necessary! Sunroof coupes will hurt you, sunroof delete ok, targas much better. One thing that made a big difference for me - adjusting the pedals - it is easy to put them forward gaining significantly more legroom. I have the stock wheel, and by making these changes I fit very well, especially with driving mocs. My targa and my 2008 M3 are the most comfortable cars I have sat in. Buy the targa and enjoy - you will not regret it! Good luck!

I have a 88 cab and I'm 6-3 and 245 pounds. I have never had a problem with room. I have a factory steering wheel. My car is very comfortable to drive. It is easy to get in and out of.

Thanks again everyone! One thing I failed to mention was that this particular Targa had some speakers
installed in front of the rear seats! Maybe this caused some loss of space for retracting the seat!
The driver's side seat doesn't hit the speaker when it is all the way back, but maybe the track was
limited due to the speaker installation. I should have mentioned this from the start! My bad!!
I am going to try to find another 87-89 vintage 911 this weekend to see what it feels like as far as
fit goes! As I said, I'm 6'4" [maybe a touch under now] and inseam is 34" so from the responses here it sounds like I should fit!!

There's a good chance they did alter the tracks for the audio junk in the back. Sounds like a great reason to yank the stuff, lose the excess weight, and allow you to focus on the real music inherent to all 911's.

There should be buckets of head room in a targa. The smaller wheel is a good call though. It makes getting in and out much easier and allows you to drive more comfortably if you're on the gigantic side :-)
