I want to replace my W/S. Are there any draw backs to using an after market W/S? Is the size and fit as good as the factory W/S? Does the after market W/S resist pits as well or better than the factory W/S.
Can anyone recommend a brand or manufacture? FYI the Factory tinted W/S is well over $700.
Thanks,

Yes, the factory seal is the only way to go for the proper fit... I assume you had an after market glass installed and you've been satisfied with it?

Insurance company also covered the aluminum trim fopr mine the other year.
All parts were from the dealership, glass company was not too happy with the aftermarket quality of the glass and seals.

Ron,
It's an "84" coupe... No antenna, with a full tint and a darker tint across the top. I'm sure there are more than one manufactures of the glass and they're not all created equal. Anyone know which one is the best? Maybe no one has made a study of this... and maybe for what's involved who cares... You look for the best price and that's enough.

Here's what a member put up on my post on the Pelican Web Site:
I had to replace my windshield a few years ago. I used a national firm, Diamond Triumph Glass. They installed a Sigla tinted windshield with antenna for less than $500.00. Sigla is the OEM windshield. They have nation wide locations.
I might add to the above that I was also told by a very knowledgeable Porsche guy in the biz that the Sigla was the best OEM W/S...

Mine is Sigla, it Finnish, Danish....can't remember. I don't know if my seal is factory or not. I would make certain the replacement is 100% width and height of original.

OEM seal--definitely. But I just had my windshield replaced by a local Harmon Glass shop. PPG windshield, fit was just fine and it was about $200.
I think the key to the job was this particular Harmon Glass shop had installed a number of 911 windshields, both the newer glued and the older with the lip and trim. So experience is the key, but I don't see any problems with my PPG per se...

Roger,
I'm pretty sure that the "84" doesn't use any glue or sealer on the gasket... Are you saying that your installed used sealer? I'm sure it doesn't hurt anything, but will make it harder the next time you have to replace the glass. The use of sealer certainly eliminates leaking of water and air through the W/S gasket.
