Default ride Height numbers.

Hey Guys
I started a thread on Pelican that is really generating some steam , but like all things Pelican , with the volume it will get buried quickly. I was wondering if we could collect some numbers as a group so we can see where we are at.

Ride height is determined as the distance to the centre of the wheel from the fround minus the distance from the ground to the centre of the torsion bar cover. For refernce I am also intersted in fender height .

My distance from the ground to the centre of all my wheels is 300mm.
Distance from the ground to centre of front torsion bar cover is 165mm
Therefore my ride height at the front is 300-165 = 135mm

the spec for USA is 99mm and ROW is 108mm of course this is Bollocks because my fender height is about 26 inches.

The rear fender height is about 292mm so I have a difference of about 8mm, The problem is the torsion bar height for the rear is suppose to be about 12mm ABOVE the centre of the wheel .. so again this is Bollocks because my rear fender is 25.5 inches.

I am gettting confirmation on this from some guys on Pelican who are seeing similar things so i was wondering what you guys are seeing.

Of course Mandatory pics ..

Ice, that all sounds very..... ahem..... scientific. My rule of thumb is, ground to the top of the wheel arch:
Front: 25.5 inches
Rear: 25 inches

I'll get back w pics. I don't have front torsion bars, so I'll find some other reference for the front.

yeah Butzip I was trying to do it via the wheel arch to .. that is what i was so shocked when I did it the Porsche method in the Bentley ... the measurment I expected was like 99mm and got 165mm, WTF ?

Thanks Rusnak I would be interested in your findings .. I just used the ruler to show my measuring points , As it has warmed up some here and I have just filled with a full tank of gas I am going out to remeasure..

So here's a pic from the side instead, so you can figure out with the eyeball method if it's right or wrong.

yeah I saw the same thing . i think the "spec" is just crap.. actually your rear ride height is worse than yuou thought .. the rear torsion bar centre should be ABOVE the wheel centre by 12 mm .. you ar BELOW the torsion bar just like me .. by 31mm...

measuring the centre of that front sway bar is a pain in the *** as you can't see it with the sway bar in the way ..

i rechecked mine today with more light and I am 305mm to wheel centre and 160mm to centre of front torsion bar cover so I am at 145mm ,, with a spec of 99-106 ... the spec is screwed up.

BTW my front is 25 3/4 and the back is about 25 1/4

i like how yours sits so i might try and get your numbers. on fender height .. I have to do the math and see if your ride height and fender match . i think they do ..

Ice,

A few additional comments. My rear tires are shorter than the front, because the fronts are new-ish, and the rears are almost ready to be changed. The gap that you see in the rear should be smaller.

Also, I think my fenders on the left side may have been re-profiled by the body shop. I took it in to have them measure the fenders, do a re-paint, and fit the wider wheels, re-fit the doors so that they close nicely, etc. I think this may be why my fenders seem uniform in relation to the wheel rims.

I also have raised front spindles. I think they were raised about 1/4" or 13mm. Otherwise, you have to cut down the rubber snubbers if you have Bilstein struts, or maybe remove them altogether (eek!).
