I have to say, this is the best tutorial I've ever seen, and the subject is rather intimidating. Those tools, those tools! And not to mention the 4' breaker bar!!

I was just putting the finishing touches on Part 8 of the Tutorial, and found this. Thank you, sir! My goal is to submit the next section by mid-week next week, and then it'll probably be a few days until it's posted.
Great tutorial! I'm new to this site and jumped in on Chapter VI. I wish I would have seen it earlier, but I'm doing good. I'm at Chapter VIII now....any guess when it might be posted?
You mentioned that the original housings came from Germany with no sealant...just the paper gaskets. Is that still the suggested procedure in light of the more modern sealants (i.e. Curil, etc). Do you talk to that in VIII?
Thanks again for the great work!! It's truly appreciated!

Dan Anderson
Hi Dan; Yes, sealants (Curil T) are covered in the Tutorial, and I do discuss the assembly procedure to avoid leaks/seepage.
There was a slight delay on my part regarding the completion of Part 8, but I'm going to finish it today (2/14) and forward it to the Tutorial's host for posting. If you really, really need Part 8 pm me with an e-mail address and I'll send you a pre-proofed copy.
For some reason I don't have access privileges to your profile to get your PM address. No worries...my weekend is shot so I'll wait for it to be posted on the forum.
To all those following this thread " Porsche 915 Transmission Repair Tutorial" at the www.redlinetechnik.com Porsche Wiki, TUTORIAL VIII is up and ready for viewing.
Although the Tutorial is now "complete," I've decided to write a Part 9 that will consist of the "915 in review," and include torque spec info for different year models, and other interesting bits. Watch for it in about two weeks. Marc, thank you for supplying a great home for my Tutorial!
That tutorial stands as a monument to future tutorials. Still a scary process to try at home, but at least one knows what goes into the process. I'm looking forward to pt.9 and the follow up engine drop and shift linkage tutorial. I wonder if a clutch replacement tutorial might be in the works? I guess it depend's on the condition of the Buyer's car.
Part 9 is finished (finally!) and has been delivered to the Tutorial's site (see the OP for the link). It should be posted in the next few days, and then we'll figure out how to move on to the next phase. My stepson will be with us during spring break, and I'm contemplating having him remove the engine and trans from my '82 SC, separate the two on the floor, and photograph/detail the process. No promises, I'm not sure we'll be able to do this, but we'll try!
OOOPS! If you have looked for Tutorial Part 9, it is up on the site, but a placement error put it between Part 4 and Part 5. Sorry, for the mistake, the site is working to correct this issue!
