Oh yeah, get that redline out of there too. You need to run Swepco in a 915, or 901.

NEVER use synthetic gear oil in a 915. Friction-based synchro rings don't like additional slippery stuff, they need friction.

Regarding oil, I have found, over about 35 years of working with 915s, that Kendall Three-Star 80W 90 GL-5 is the only way to go! It's a superior product that is perfect for all 356 and 911 transmissions built through the end of 1986 production.

Thanks, Pete. The current Kendall data sheet shows the Three-Star available in either 75W90 or 80W-140. Would the first choice do?

I think that "Super Three Star" is 75W 90 - that's synthetic and you don't want that. The 80W 90 is regular Dino Three star... Don't use the 80W 140! I'll check on this later to be sure that I haven't mixed up the weights/names!

I had the numbers right - 75W 90 is Super Syn, that's a no-no in 915s.

What you need to try and find is Kendall Three Star Dino 80W 90.

Good luck with the search! I know a shop in SoCal that stocks it...

Thanks for researching this, Pete. Seems like Kendall's pushing the Super Three Star synthetic now, but I'll look around for the dino stuff.

Hi, Pete

No luck on Three-Star dino, so I'm going the Swepco route.
