I think they are the kind that you need to expand with circlip pliers, no? If so, then you can get a pair at either Sears or Orchard Supply that are good quality.

Wow, waynes book says "just slide circlip right in". Thats why I started thinking I was doing something wrong.
What is silicone paste used for in this repair? Is is to assemble the tubes that slide in together? Or, is it used to get the tubes in place? Did that make sense?

a couple of things ... i think you expand the circlip and put it on the smaller tube.. when you have the tubes in place the slot will show , then you slide the clip down the tube and it pops in the slot.
The paste is to lubricate the orings so they don't get distorted or twisted during instalation . I have heard they are a BEAR to get in as they basically have to fit very tight and you have very little leverage up there .. especially if you have heat exchangers in the way , I have read of all kinds of tricks with locking pliers and 1 by 2 for leverage.
I am waiting on that project until i do the heat exchangers .. that is the time for this one ..

Tackled this project today, everything went smoothly. Most difficult task was to secure o-ring in its groove after tubes were fully extended in there positions, it was a real PITA!

I also did not have to take off heat exchangers and I did not drain oil(a little messy though). Did not use hose clamps, just used the best lube I can buy, a 3M silicone paste, and was very gentle with channel locks.
For future reference, use the best lube possible, makes the whole project a whole lot smoother.
thanks again to all, especially Rusnak!

Did you do it with the heat exchangers in?
