Automotion/Performance Products
Hey listers,
I have been buying from Automotion/Performance Products for the 2-3 years and have noticed a decline in email responsiveness and product delivery and an increase in excuses over the last year.
Is anyone else experiencing the same drop in service or is it just me?
Cheers from down here.

Automotion used to be really awesome back in the old days. They were bought up by Performance Products. Their general manager started his own company, StrasseUSA, which was bought out by Smith Volvo. I think he's still around though.

Believe they have been sold again.
I talked to fellas in CA earlier today chasing an order. Their warehouse is in FL - 3 hours ahead of CA and I am at least 11 hours ahead again. My body clock is therefore screwed...
Promises made over the last week to get a delivey expedited and supplied with a tracking No. seem to be ignored. All this for a few small parts and a Wurth fittings (screws/washers etc) kit for my SC.
Sheesh

I've been waiting for oil return tubes for 3.5 weeks?!?!?!? They recently sent me a 912 outer pulley half that A.) was not cad plated, as it should be and B.) it was rusty!!! not used, but corroded. WTF?? I noticed parts are coming from Ekler's in Florida...

Hey butzip,
A fella I spoke to earlier today said that all the Porsche and Merc parts had been shipped to a warehouse in Florida. My last order was billed to my credit card under the name of Eklers - that confirms what you say. The sales fella I spoke to today seemed to be under stress caused by the changed delivery/warehousing arrangement and subsequent poor delivery performance. I reckon that they will be losing business because of this.
Luckily there are other suppliers I can use.
Cheers from down here

I was a big fan when you could walk in and buy over the counter. Went out one day and that was gone. The counter guy told me that Pelican was the only big customer they had left. The general public would call and get a price on something and an hour later Pelican would fax over an order for the exact same part at 30% off and have Performance ship it to the very guy that had asked about it. Great move for Pelican, sucked for Performance.

Hello Douglas,
That's a bit of a sad story, but not good business to rely on one customer. The irony of it all is that an Automotion catalogue arrived in the mail today - just wish my parts would arrive as promptly..
Cheers to all

Yeah, I'm waiting on a small order from them. Actually called yesterday... I was a little surprised at how dis-interested the rep was. Gave me the distinct impression of a business that is slipping.

Two months ago I ordered new torsion bars. After two weeks I called. Another week I called and after a total of four weeks my order arrived. The phone guys (except one) seemed clueless. I live in San Diego and I think Performance is in California. The part was in fact sent from Ecklers in Flordia.
The torsion bars were made in California.
By the way. The brand name is Sway-away. They make tons'o stuff for suspensions. The part fit perfect.
I am also a customer of Pelican. Their prices are steep at times but the service is the best, they write to tell you it has been shipped with a tracking number. A very well run company.
I like to see competition, but Perfomance is not performing.

Porsche dealerships realize increased sales, reasonable margins and better inventory turn by competing on price and service with internet suppliers. Porsche North America encourages their dealer network to work with DIYers to justify their financial investment in advertising and product support.

i have ordered a majority of my stuff from pelican, but i have ordered things from automotion, and it takes days before the order is even processed, Thats why i stick with pelican. but.....automotion has the 48 hour specials where you get 20% off almost anything. I have spend well over $3k with pelican, and all i get offers for is 5% off, and some porsche mug.
