Now this is a very good thread ... I live a few hours or so From Brad ford and when in the area pick up a couple of cases. When I can't get that i swing by TSC and pick up a case of VR-1 and rest easy .... the only thing I like about mobil One is the free baseball hat they gave me ,, I personally think there oil is terrible and spend more money in marketing ( AKA the cap ) than they do on research .
It is expensive , burns off fast and leaks everywhere .....
I have had great results with BP and VR1... Maybe Mobile one is designed for newer cars with different bearing tollerances .. who knows...

I am thinking that one of these tests are incorrect. Id say the Pelican one is incorrect because oil companies will pay HUGE fines if they do not follow their product data sheets. why would Valvoline print one thing and do another knowing that enthusiasts test their oil... Why would they bother. Makes more sense to just say that they have adequate levels, use better agents and leave it at that... The user either didnt send it the true VR1 20w50 or the lab made a mistake. At least one hopes....

For comaprison, here is a recent analysis posted at the Bird of virgin VR-1 Oil:

It is interesting to note that the Zn and P levels in the virgin oil are lower than reported in the used oil by the first poster. Due to how the Zn and P work, I would expect the opposite. Now this can be normal variation in the analysis, an error or some other factor.

It is interesting that Valvoline publishes this data in their Product Data Sheets but many of the other majors (Mobil for one) does not include this data. To further confuse the issue, these companies in other published data claims adequate ZDDP. Could it be to circumvent this standard?

I ran out of Autozones at about 60 qts. If Brad Pitt himself drove a case of oil to Fresno, I might use that, but to me it aint' worth mail ordering oil by the quart.

Pretty good. Before we got a Porsche engine program in IMSA (showing my age I know) our team owner would build his own engines. He used nothing but Valvoline in them until we raced a mid-engined "911" for Tom Hessert. That car ran so hot with the motor in the middle we had to run Mobil 1 just to get an engine to last the race distance. After that we started running synthetic Mobil1 in all the cars we supported. If I wasn't running Mobil syn in my 930 I'd be running the Valvoline stuff too.

BP for me. Years ago, I noticed some inconsistencies between labs' results. I submitted multiple virgin samples of various oils to both Staveley and Blackstone. Repeated the same tests later and decided to go with Staveley instead of Blackstone. I do believe there exists a thread discussing this. I just didn't see the consistency in numbers just on the virgin samples when conducted at Blackstone...some "others" noted the same thing. I wouldn't trust a data sheet and would, instead, continue to have virgin samples verified.
I stay with Staveley Labs now. I do believe Navarro does, as well.
