Default Things that make a 915 transmission "better"?

Other than a rebuild, seems like the following things improve shifting. So far I got:

* use Swepco fluid
* refreshing the bushings
* adjusting the shift coupling

Anything else?

replace shift bushings (clarifying the word "refresh").

pause at neutral while shifting.

(my own bias: Wevo billet shifter)

I've only been driving the Targa for a couple of months. And def pausing while going through neutral helps and get into first while rolling to a stop.

But is it true it's better to shift through 2nd and 3rd especially, in high revs? And if so, at what revs do you usually shift?

No! Just dont rush the shifts through neutral. That is why I like the short shift. I can pause in neutral, and still it's a nice smooth and quick shift. The spring centering in the 2-3rd plane is also nice.

If you don't already have an adjustable gas pedal, and you are accustomed to heel and toe-ing, then I'd recommend one.

The WEVO shifter is a great upgrade. Worth every penny.

Yup, a few folks on here use the seine system w/ the short shift kit and like it. Search button is your friend on that one.

Wevo gate shift kit, Wevo uprated shifter, Wevo or Stomski shift coupler, new bushings, Pete Z's. special mod for the mainshaft roller bearings, reinforced intermediate plate, Kendall 75W/90 dino oil with the special friction additive if you have an LSD (go ahead, ask Pete Z.), NO speed shifting like you used to do on your GM Muncie transmission.

All of these things will make your life with a 915 go MUCH better.

I'm surprised Pete hasn't chimed in yet.

lots of things you can do, depending on budget.

I only have the 87 factory short shift kit and seine 'gate kit' w/3-4 plane spring loading. both helped and were inexpensive mods.

I have heard a lot of good things about the WEVO shifter and gateshift (inside tranny), but expensive.

anyone hear any feedback on the hargett raised shifter systems?

Only thing I would add is... Shift slow... no real need to try to cut split seconds during the shifts... or so I have been told

Also have the Seine Shift Gate - no missed shifts.

Just replaced shift cable and HELPER SPRING - much easier clutch which makes shifting a lot more pleasurable.

This reminds me......the clutch cable adjustment is very straightforward. I think there is maybe .15mm or so of pre-tension (Please refer to the Bentley manual). If you get the adjustment right, the 915 clutch (not G-50) is a happy camper. If not, then no shift, not happy.

There is no need to downshift to 1st WHILE rolling to a stop.

This goes against what I've read about the 915, so I'd like to hear more.

Do you hold it in first at a stop, or shift just before the light turns green?

I'm still learning and would like to help my trans last as long as possible.
