very nice job on those droplinks Iceman did you use a sand blaster to get them that clean ?

As for the exhaust sounds, i dont really care two hoots what other road users/bystanders think...its totally for my own musically tuned racing ears I never hankered after a porsche for their benefit or for posing, its because it is a sports car and motor racing legend
Amen

Alex, that deal sounds good to me, though slightly more than i envisaged paying for a muffler ! But the whole package oozes quality and love the sound bites. You seem to be the perfect professionals. I may first get the car up on some ramps and get a 12k service done on it just to make sure there are not any nasty surprises before i use up what spare cash i have for goodies. I am not expecting any as spoke at length today to a well respected P-specialist who did a load of work on it last week and he didnt notice anything un-toward.
One other question Alex, do you know what the weight saving is over stock using your muffler and CAT ? or basically what your parts weigh?

i replaced them , as you can see the originals were bent .. must have been the low contact point on some shunt.. the replacents were only about 50.00 each at the time. replacing the inboard rubber is also a given and fairly cheap.

Alex's exhaust sure does sound nice.

I don't think your underside looks that bad, normal stuff I'd say for where you live. IMO, I think it is actually a testament to how durable 80's 911s got. I'd bet an 80's American car would look like hell comparitively if it lived the same life as your 911.

I think most of what you see corrosion wise is just surface attacked metal from the salt / elements, nothing structural. Out of interest, what is the recommended paint treatment for the steel under these cars? We have Hammerite in the UK which protects and prevents rust for external metalwork. So could just be a case of sanding off old corrosion and re treating with Hammerite (other), but have seen mention of other paint that i am not familiar with ...PO15?.. ?

PO of my Targa removed the front and rear suspension pieces and had them all powder coated gray about 6 years ago.

Still look good and I can wax them as needed if I have spare time.

I'll post a photo later today.

POR-15 will work well, just clean the surface and place a tarp on the floor as the stuff flows like water and drips everywhere.

Mark, shipping things into the UK is very very expensive. Customs and Excise get a hold of it and won't let shipper release it to you until you pay.

I'm trying to find some prices for comparison for you, but you may well find import tax's on the web.

Find out before you ship it, is my advice.

Cheers.

What about a nice set of SSI's? With the car already minus the cat, why not go all the way and really unleash the beast???

Ed, you'd agree, wouldn't ya.

Thanks for the tip off 911ski. Am concerned about the customs duty must admit as system is already a hefty outlay. Alex had a workaround but not sure exactly how it works.

Am chomping at the bit to get a tastier sounding system on the car as at present its the only thing not stimulating me about the car. The 'sports/racing' sound is part of the whole deal for me to compliment the exhilarating drive in a nimble 911
Im not out to deafen the world just want more of that raw flat six sound to waft back to my ears when i have my foot on the loud pedal

Doug and Ed...are you playing the two spending devils on my shoulders?

it wasn't long ago someone in London was playing with a cat bypass and a muffler bypass. He loved it, neighbors, not so much. I can't remember the name of the thread....

Not the one, but close:

yeah i read that thread thanks Douglas. But think he put a muffler bypass and a cat bypass on it !...no wonder his neighbours wanted to lynch him !

Besides, i live in the countryside...land of the open road !

I dont want to bypass the rear muffler, just want a sports box on it instead of stock.
