Post 911 strut tower Brace - yes or no to purchase

I just bought an 87' cab. I see catalogs selling this strut tower brace that is suppose to enable better handling upfront. Can someone tell me if this upgrade is worth it? thanks

I put one on my 81SC and 93C2, however, I also spend time at the track. For street usage, I'm not sure you'd notice much, if any, difference.

Bill - How much difference did you notice at the track? Do you have the kind that forms a triangle or just a single piece?

Grant,

In both cases I used the single bars. I don't know how the triangulated bars work one way or the other on a pre-89 911, however, they make mincemeat out of the trunk. When I go to the track, I put stuff in the trunk (used to put a 7x16" wheel in there), and didn't want to fuss around with the extra pieces.

Did I notice the effects of the strut bar? Not explicitly. In both the 81 and the 93 the strut bars were added as part of a general suspension upgrade, and the entire package, in both cases, made a very significant difference over stock.

I have a '91 C2 Cab. Put a strut tower brace. Really noticed the handling improvement. Took a lot of the sway out of the body. The $150 was well spent. Hope this helps....

I put one on my '84 Targa, and I think it made a diff. The front seems a lot "surer" around sharp turns.

I'd say purchase it. They're selling for $133 (or something close) through AJUSA. I'm about to buy one. For the price, you can't beat the experiment.

YES.

Get a triangulated bar like Camber Truss, (see www.stable-energies.com .) The triangulation provides additional stiffness and stability.

I have one on my targa. Great for the track and autocrossing.

Chuck IMHO, the brace really helped my '81 Targa, so it should help your Cab. as well, since they are both inherently much more prone to flexing compared to the coupes. Brian Howe '86 944 '81 Targa

Chuck,

I added the Brey-Krause bar to my Targa, and while I couldn't feel any realy difference driving on the street, I really noticed a difference at the DE events. Also upgraded to the turbo tie-rods...WOW!! *G*

Cool

Hey fellow 911ers, remember the best tested configuration is both together
1) a triangulated front truss bar
( for camber movement reduction on "hard" cornering)
and ...
2) B-Pillar brace ( read seat belt bolt) to sill rod( This helps to reduce body roll on "hard" cornering for targa and convertibles espesially)
however, neither one installed alone will do both?

[quote]Also upgraded to the turbo tie-rods

On the pre-89 911's, upgrading to the Turbo tie rods is one of the best (and not too pricey - parts are around $120) upgrades you can make. With the Turbo tie rods, when you turn the wheel, it points right where you want to go. The stock setup is OK until you get spoiled by the Turbo tie rods - It's one of those upgrades you wonder how you got by without them previously.

I'll be installing the 964 equivalent as soon as it warms up a bit...it'll be interesting to see if I get the same benefit, given the 964 power steering.
