Default add elec fan to oil cooler on 85 911?

has anyone added an aftermarket elec fan to the oil cooler on an 85 911?

it has the radiator type cooler but they did not add the elec fan until 87. I have seen the whole cooler/fan but a bit pricey. I have never seen a kit to add the factory fan.

I am interested in getting an aftermarket fan and wiring to the battery using a manual switch.

I added the factory fan to my front radiator type cooler. It's easy and effective. Basically, you'll need the fan/fan mounts, longer horn mounts (to relocate the horns out of the way of the fan hub), a switch, and a relay. I wired a factory relay into mine for a factory look. I added the switch under the dash within easy reach. Most of the aftermarket Porsche parts suppliers have all of this stuff, and you can get a switch at any electronic parts place.

you can find a great tutorial on the entire replacement here: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti...oil_cooler.htm

obviously disregard the 'Cooler Upgrade' sections but you may find the electrical portion particularly useful

Long after I found mine for $100's off Pelican(I'm sure the thread is here somewhere) I walked into to place below and found a fan of equal size and shape for +/-$80.00

Scroll down and click on the catalogs

I used a Spal 6.5" fan with a manual switch (thru a relay). Works fine.

Had to find a later model bracket for clearance. Also used small horns to reduce airflow restriction.

I don't mean to take any business away from any one but..... you can get a 7" fan from SiliconeIntakes.com for $25.00. I have 2 on my 912 and they work great!! (and in stock).

If I am seeing this correct, the fans you reference are on your AC condensor? or have you mounted a oil cooler where an AC condensor would go.

pls explain what I am seeing. I would be surprised if you have AC in a 912. my 911 still has working, kinda, AC but I will probably pull it over the winter.

I am getting the little fan for the right front fender oil cooler for my 85. has the rediator style cooler but no fan as with the 87+.

thanks again for all the ideas and advice.
