If you don't know him already - Rick at R&D Automotive in Albany, does good work and really knows his Pcars ( club races a 73 carrera).

He may even know this vehicle.

I never understood the concept of a "low mileage" Porsche. A Porsche is designed to be driven so why does the owner not drive it? I had this conversation with Bruce Anderson about a year ago regarding his "premium" of 10% for P-cars with low miles. He told me "well sure if the owner never drives it and the car just sits I wouldn't want it either". If the car is never driven, as the one you describe, then you better plan on a rebuild because oil and gas do bad things to engines when they sit. Any mechanic knows this. Gas turns to varnish in less than 2 years if not treated and the contents of most oils are very acidic to metal parts. Driving the car burns off many of the "bad" things in oil.

I guess if your going to drain the engine of all fluids and store it properly that's a different story but haven't run across one yet.

I do'nt know how prices compare stateside, as i've never even looked before. but a car siting there year in year out is shame and a waste in any money right!
Our national magazine (Porche 911) often feature these guys who trailer immaculate cars to competitions here, win everything in sight, and trailer it home again, whats the point..
they are made to be driven on occasion quickly.

There is ABSOLUTELY no way that a car that HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN in 13 years won't have some mechanical problems. You cannot store something such as a car "the right way" for that long, and not have ill effects. Keep in mind that even if only started and driven short distances every couple of months is not the same as putting 20K miles a year. Movement of mechanical parts is a good thing.

So Fahrvergnuugen will you please put us all "out of our misery" and go and look at the car and report back! My '89 Carerra sat for 4 years early in it's life and doesn't seem any the worse for it!

Fahrv. I have to agree w/ RichardL. My '81 SC Targa sat over 10 years after 68,000 miles and after a fuel system flush/check, new plugs, fresh oil and filter, and jlkline's suggestion of oil in the cylinders and cranking to lube everything, it runs like a new one! My 2 cents.

That car is a pretty safe "high $20k's" resale car. You can probably put several miles on it and still come out on it...maintence included. It'll be worth as much w/ 15k miles on it as it is now with 2k mi.
