PC260 oil filters
Anyone have a source for the large oil filters for the SC/Carreras. I'm looking for a PC260 or Mahle equivalant. The new OC-54s are not what I prefer to use but are the only ones available from the local dealer.

Bill,
Have the Mahle OC-54's changed? I know that the black Porsche filters for the SC/Carrera (930.107.764.01), at least a few years ago, started being made in the US, and were a bit smaller than the previous German filters. I ordered a bunch of Mahle OC-54's and have been using those since.

So it looks like the big filters are nla anywhere?
No, the OC 54s are the same ugly p/o/w as ever. I just ran out of my last case of the Mahles and was disappointed to learn that they are nla at my local dealer. Just hoping that somewhere out there they migh be available.

Hi Bill - I just orderd a bunch of OC54 Mahle filters from Pelican for $6 a filter - which is a lot less than the $15 per filter at Performance Products. I have only been doing my own oil changes for a short while, but these are the only filters I have used (or my Porsche shop has used). Is there something wrong with these filters?

Bill,
Regarding the OC-54 filters....
The Mahle filters have the bypass feature built into the filter(that little spring assembly within)...the PORSCHE filter from the dealer looked like a cheap aftermarket with no bypass.
Any insight into this?

Tom,
Bill V or Bill G? I haven't taken one of the newer Porsche filters apart. However, after seeing that the slightly smaller filter is made in the US, as mentioned I stocked up on the Mahle's. I probably assumed, rightly or wrongly, that the Porsche filter is made by one of the 3? companies that make them for all the US logo'd companies (there are some internet articles that detail who makes filters for who) which in my mind suggests a lowering of quality. Hardly scientific, but given the oil filter function, I'll stick with Mahle's.

My sentiments exactly. I had a case of the Mahles which I have recently exhausted. The local dealer only has the OC-54s. Looks like Pep Boys may be the next stop.
Jet, the Mahles and Purolator PC-260 were larger, thus easier to install(maybe I just got used to changing them out) and had a built in relief valve. I particularly liked the red PC260s for esthetic reasons(sort of like red brakes and shrouds)
I didn't buy the OC-54 because it looked odd to me. The dealer swears that the OC54 is the one we should use.

Bill V.,
I had the same discussion with the dealer that the OC-54 didn't look right....he assured me it was. I grabbed it because I dumped the oil and thought there was a filter on my shelf. Just ordered a few of the Mahle filters from Pelican.

I must be missing something? I thought the OC 54 was a Mahle. I am looking at one right now, and it says OC 54 Micro-Star in a Mahle box. Also, there is a blue spring in what appears to be some sort of by-pass mechanism an inch or so inside the filter. I also have a Purolator L30260, which says it replaces the PC260. It does not appear to have any visible by-pass spring. They are both the same size, approx 5 3/8" , not including the nut spot welded to the top of the L30260, by approx 3 12" in diameter. I am assuming the OC 54 is the one to use??
Thanks,
Tim
