Hi. I have a 1983 911sc with the 3.0l. It was running fine and just last week I tried to start it and no spark. I am getting fuel to the enigine. They tested the wires and checked for voltage. Everything was ok so after calling a few people I thought the Ignition box failed. I had it sent out for repair and just got it back. Since I was installing a new ignition box I also put in a new factory coil. Still no start. Engine cranks and thats it. Not getting spark out of coil or spark plug wires. Metered out the coil and not getting 12 v to coil. What else should I look for. The only other item left on the ignition to check is the distributor. The car has only 47k miles on it and is all stock.
Thanks
Pete

My 87' did the same thing. It turned out to be the DME relay, a common failure point (located under the driver seat). I'm not familiar with your particular model year but if you have the same relay set up, it's worth checking/replacing.

peter, that just doesn't sound right. You say you have a good cdi and a good coil, but no power to the wires? Did you check the fuses? I think fuse #16 powers the cdi and should have power when you turn the key.

he has an 83 SC , completely different to any 87..
Start with the basics and look for input voltages as Rusnak suggests. do oyu hear the whine comin from the CDI box with the ignition on ? if you don't stop there because that is your problem. hearing the whine doesn't mean it will start , but not hearing it will guarentee it won't.
The distributor is not a factor as it is post coil and you are not even getting anything to the coil. also check the wiring from the tach to the CD box. the car may think it is in over rev and have the igntion cut out.
