Default Seat cover opinions...

Looking at some seat covers to replace those in a 1989 Cab I am looking at buying.

What are the opinions of the vinyl as compared to the leather?

http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/..._pg3.htm#item6

Is the leather worth the approx. $600 more or are there other vendors you might recommend?

Thanks!

There is no substitute for the look and feel of leather. If this is a DIY I heard vinyl is easier to work with and most would have a pro do the leather. If you are going to source it out, spend the money on leather...imho

A 911 Cabriolet of the final year of production... wow, that's great. Hope it works out.

Do the seats need a recover or can you restore and redye? I redyed my entire interior and it turned out very nice.

If the car came originally with leather seats, then it may have also come with leather door panels, console, etc. If so, then it's sort of compulsory to re-cover the seats in leather. The one exception is the dashboard, which I feel should be ordered in vinyl then either re-sprayed to match or covered in something like alcantara. The reason I say this is that leather will shrink, and on the dash it will curl and warp.

I have a 84 Cab.

I assumed it was vinyl from the feel of it (dried over the years). Turns out it was leather, but I didn't find out for sure until it was removed & I had already ordered the vinyl (figuring with a Cab, Vinyl would be better for accidental wetting in a surprise rainburst).

The color of the vinyl seats doesn't quite match the leather.

+1 on the leather on the door panels, etc. - mine has that too. Dash is NOT leather on mine though. Vinyl's cheaper, and I'm ok with it. Not happy, but ok. I will change the rear leather out with vinyl as well to match the seats better, but it's low on my priority right now as the new soft top, wheels, & tires have broken the bank on me this year.

That's exactly what I worry about, as to seat recovering and it's color relation to the console and door, particularly with Linen.

I think my dash id vinyl, as well. (1989).

Call me cheap but I've been tossing around the idea of installing some inexpensive aftermarket bucket/sport type seats instead of recovering the factory seats. My interior is all black, so a pair of black cloth seats would not stand out too bad. I'm not really concerned about maintaining the originality of the car. The rips in my front seats are a sore in my eye. I think a set of aftermarket seats can be had for under $300.
