Default My '77 Lost 62lbs. Today

I finally got up the courage to pull out the anemic and underperforming AC system. The compressor and brackets, lines and condensor weigh almost 30lbs. and it's in the worst place (rear and high up). The total mess according to my barely accurate Ikea bathroom scale weighs in at 62lbs. I really like the improved access to the right intake valves, plugs and air filter. I also pitched the heater blower and ducting and replaced it with a fiberglass backdate piece. I guess I'll be using the pop-out quarter windows and sunroof a lot more now!

I always wondered how much weight could be saved. I'm thinking about pulling mine and boxing up the parts. I never use it anymore anyway.

I'll make a wild bet that nearly 100 percent of stock A/C systems in air cooled Porsches fail to work correctly.

I like the engine compartment. Too bad I just converted my a/c to R134.

My 85 930 is in the shop as we speak because the blasted AC which I converted to R-134 2 years ago has quit working even though it has pressure, there's the right pressure differential between hi and lo sides (means expansion valve is functioning) and there's nothing apparently wrong with the rest of the system, yet no cold air!?! My receiver dryer did get tweaked in my "fender bender" last month, so we're replacing that to see if it's the problem. Kind of frustrating with nothing obviously crimped or broken, just not working. If I didn't live in Florida (it's 95 degrees outside right now) I'd trash it too.
