I'm scouring for a bypass pipe deal so I can ditch the cat. then I'll replace the o2 and new plugs, fuel filter, etc. See how it does then. Thinking the cat is probably not as efficient with 125k on it.(especially since the car uses a little oil)

tom, save your original Porsche cat. It will last at least twice as long as that if you have been using good gas. I think it is the higher quality metal matrix catalyst rather than ceramic.

You might want to see if you can borrow an air/fuel meter to check your mixture after you replace the O2 sensor.

good idea.
I know the local speed shops have those hydrocarbon meters they use on dyno runs. Bike shops useualy have em too. Maybe worth investing in a gauge and wide band o2 sensor and then I can make my own. Hmmm..

Another thought is Stoddards swap meet is coming up in June, maybe I can find a used pipe there.

They are hard to find . i was just chatting wit justin and he came up with an idea I forgot about , just cut out the cat , save the flanges and weld in your own pipe, that is exactly what mine is and it works fine.

Attached is a pic of the guts of the cat I took off of my car when I got the Fabspeed premuffler. I believe it to be the OEM cat which looks to be the metal matrix mentioned above vs. the ceramic.

I was contemplating that idea too, gutting the cat but the other half of my brain says to save the car in case smog tests are ever 'forced' here in columbus, ohio. Cleveleand and Cincinatti have em, i think, but columbus is fairly laxed. If we ever went to an annual inspection, i could swap back n fourth.

Another idea is I buy a old used cat and gut that one. Hmm.

My '87 has a 20 gallon tank, correct? I get 300 miles to a tank of gas. That averages right around 15mpg. That's all in-town driving and I get on her pretty hard sometimes.
