Default Lowering with Eibach springs and what size wheels and tires ?

Hi guys,

I'm a newbie to the Porsche family with a recently purchased 1989 Carerra coupe and would like to lower the suspension and replace the stock 6 and 7 inch wheels and tires ... I was looking at Eibach springs with the Fuchs 7 inch front wheels with 225/45/16 tires and 8 or 9 inch Fuchs rears with 245/45/16 tires. Is this a good option and does anyone have a suggestion for a proper setup ???How is the wheel/ fender clearance ?Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thank you !
Phil

Phil,

The 911 Carrera (up to model year 1989) used torsion bars, not springs. You are probably asking about a 1989 Carrera 4 coupe, which was the first year of the new body style referred to as the "964". You will probably find more help in the 964 forum (click on 964 on the left-hand side Forum index). There is also a forum dedicated to wheel and tire fitment that might be helpful.

Good luck and welcome to the Porsche family!

Thank you for the enlightment !
I should have read up about my car a little further ... lol
One question though, will 225/50/16 tires on 7 inch Fuchs rims fit on the front and will 245/45/16 tires on 8 inch Fuchs rims fit the rear ???
I reaaly can't stand the site of empty tire space in the wheelwells !

Thank you !

Phil,

So, did you confirm that you have a 1989 964 Carrera 4? If if you do, are you sure you want to put fuchs on it? I've not seen a 964 with Fuchs, and I'm not sure if the offsets would work. Someone else could probably answer this for sure.

The 225 would be very wide on a 7 inch rim. They will probably mount, but you may have fender rubbing. The 245 will fit out back, I believe, but usually they go on a 9" rim.

Hey Jason,

It's a 1989 Carerra Coupe not a Carerra 4... sorry for sounding like a numbnut !!!
I ordered my tires today,TOYO Proxes 225/50/16 in the front on 7 inch rims and 245/45/16
on 8 or 9 inch rears.I am desperately searching for an original 8 inch FUCHS wheel as i only have
one good one and i might have to go with 9 inch replicas if i don't find one soon. There was also only one pair of 245/45/16 Toyos at Toyo Canada so i had to jump on them.
Thank you for your input !
Phil

If you know of anyone with one 8 inch FUCHS wheel, please do tell me ... lol

My 3.2 911 can fit 225s in the front, but I chose to go with 205s with a 7" wheel up front. I think this is a good combo because the 7" wheel fits the width well, and there is minimal snag on the outer fender lip. I also have the 245s on 9" wheels and I sort of think that I could use wider rubber on the 9"s if a tire is available. I also have Eibach coils, but that's because I switched to RSR struts.
