Post Just sold my 88 911 and am sick! Miss it already...

2 guys from Holt Motor Sports near Philly just bought my gorgeous 88 Venetian Blue 911 and I am just sick about it. Got $20k for it, pretty much the # I thought I would end up getting for it. I bought it for $24,800 over 5 years ago and sold it for $20k. Best car investment I've ever made, in terms of sheer joy and attachment. I loved that car for 5 years. When I saw it drive off in another's hands, I thought "what a beautiful car that is - wish it were mine!". It looked MINT. I remember the first day I saw it - it was love at first sight. I HAD to have her. We remained attached at the hip for 5 long years. Waiting for her at the service shop, cleaning and polishing her sexy curves, touching her beautiful body...
I'm sure I'm not the first person to sell their 911 and feel like a member of the family just departed. I felt like crying. The Venetian blue color is just the best darn color in my opinion for that 1988 car. I'm biased of course.

Man, I will feel bad for a while. The only cure for what I got is a Silver/black leather C4S. Anyone know of any for sale??? For a reasonable price? That's the only color combo I'd consider.

Oh well - now the fun of searching for that primo 96-97 C4S around $47-$49k with maybe higher miles to get the lower price. I found one for $38,000 in Dark Blue but it had 92,000 miles! That's way to many.

Porscheless for the first time in 5 years, 2 months and 3 days.
Steve

I feel your pain Steve. I wonder what price Holt will place on your car - my guess is $23-25k. I looked at a few cars they had when I was shopping and while the quality of their cars was excellent the prices were high but thats what you get when you go to dealers.

Im sure you know most places to seek a good car: lots of high-line dealers and / or finder services available on-line as well as Panos, Excellence, DuPont registry, etc etc. another possibility is to look at classifieds in local PCA newsletters, but often the best cars never make it to the classifieds!

Good luck in the search-

Dan

Well Steve, that sure didn't take long. Looks like you didn't have to worry about those
'tire kickers' afterall!
Congrats and have fun in your search for a C4S. My only advice, be patient!

Take care,
Paul

Thanks, Paul. Yeah, I DID deal with alot of emailing tire kickers who wanted a pic of this crease in the seat, this lower half of the engine, this and that! I sent all the pics obligingly, but glad it's all over. It was alot of work! Maybe I could have eeked out an extra $1000 or so, and yeah, it would have paid for a large screen TV we really want had I done so, but I may NOT have gotten more than $20k in this winter climate.

I WAS smart enough to have Stephen from Holt Motor Sports take my picture with the car before he drove it away. It's the only pic I have of me and the car. Guy stuff...

I WILL take my time on my search for that C4S. Too bad they hold their value so well.

Peace,
Steve

Hey Stever, if it's any consolation the guys over at Holt are good guys, I've purchased 2 P cars from them in the past, they do appreciate the cars so that says a lot for your car!!

Thanks 993 Chaz - I was really nervous about selling to a "stealer" aka Dealer. I had some panicky thoughts last night that I was doing my dear car a disservice by selling it these guys. As it turns out, Stephen from Holt "felt my pain" and the owner's son came down too. As you said, they really were a great bunch of guys. I sort of hoped they wouldn't want it, when I saw it in the driveway looking this side of "mint", but when they finally drove off in MY car, I realized it was OK. Heck, it's just a car, right? Yeah right... Suuuure it's just a car.

I'm sure it will end up in a nice home with another loving, meticulous owner. I checked out their website and was impressed it will be joined by a gorgeous grouping of other Porsches, including a granite green metallic (?) 88 911 that looks exactly like mine in the pic. I've never even heard of this color, but it's very similar to my Venetian Blue bombshell. It hurt today when I got to work and told my manager I sold my 911. He said "WHAT? I loved that car. That color was beautiful... Let me guess, though, you've only sold it because... you're buying something else?" Hee hee. I didn't tell him what. Only that it was a "little bit newer 911".

So, back to checking out websites for C4S's. The truth of the matter is, I promised my wife I'd wait till January to actually purchase a car (assuming I'd actually find one by then) because we're waiting for my grandfather's inheritance to hit our bank account. My Pop would have been glad I spent his hard earned and saved money on something so fabulous as a 993 C4S. I'm sure he's smiling from heaven as I search the internet each day.

Peace,
Steve

Make sure it is polar silver (more bluey) and not arctic silver (more goldy). Guess you know what colour my car is?

BUT, have you seen the vesuvius grey on a widebody 993? That has to be one of THE special colours available for the 993....

Enjoy the hunt, and belive me, once you have found your "next" P-Car, the sorrow will dissappear very quickly!

Sold my yellow sc to some euro-trash wanna-be used car outfit in Monterey ~ 5 months ago. Just saw their new ad on TV. My old car is in it. Damn, I wish I never sold it. Seeing it on the tube was really twisting the blade.

Cheers,
Chris

On the other hand the 993 is all mine.

Stever, funny I told my wife the same thing after I sold my 86-911 in August. I told her that I wouldn,t buy another P-car until next fall. Go figure, my new 993 is being deliverd on the 19th ---- a day before my B-day. I can't seem to be able to walk through my garage without seeing one of those cars, it makes me nervous or something!!!!

Hi Steve: The pain can get worse too. I had an 89 944 that was just a beautiful always cared for example, CLEAN CLEAN. The guy I sold it to would use my mechanic, so I heard that the guy rear ended another car and screwed it up good. Another nice Porsche bites the dust. I'm just glad I didn't see it
Better buy your car back?

Cool

I found the perfect cure for this problem...

Get the new car BEFORE you sell the old one (my timing was never any good), nothing makes you want to see it driving down the street on it's way to a happy new home...

Plus you get a real high from getting out of your Pcar just to take the old one around the block...(and the neighbors think you won the lottery)

Anyway enjoy the thrill of the hunt on your new ride!

Regards

993chaz...know the feeling. sold my 964 with the intention of being porscheless for a while, but guess what....less than a week after I had AGREED to sell the 964 (ie: still had the car in the garage), I had placed a deposit on my friends 993....eventually picked the 993 up the same day I passed the 964 to its new owner.

come to think of it, same thing happened with my carrera 3.2.....decided to sell it and be porscheless for a while, brought it into a used car dealer to get a quote, saw the 964, bought the 964 on the spot, drove the 3.2 home, next day drove the 964 home, then wondered why just the previous day I was intent on being Porscheless, yet less than two days later I had two of the damn things in my garage!!!!
