Tight steering secondary to light wt in front without needing power steering...
feels like a go-cart.

Is the air-cooled 911 one of the few cars that park the wipers on the left side?

I have never loved a car this much, and certainly have never been this hypnotized by the looks, sound, and driving experience. It is indescribable. I'm driving a legend to work every day. I get comments at gas stations, parking lots, even at a stoplight today. Everyone seems to appreciate a loud, sleek 911!

I'm 40, and this may be my last true hobby car, the potential for upgrades and performance enhancement is truly unlimited, but even as it sits now, it is the most beautiful and fun vehicle I have ever owned.

And that's the truth.

Wow, strong words those... and a most inspiring post.

Driving my 911 is always such an event... This is what usually goes through my mind:

<get in car - close door>

"Holy *&^%... that sounds like a bank vault!"

<Search for, and eventually find where to put the ignition key>

"Ooooh... I like this racing-heritage stuff..."

<Start engine>

"Now THAT sounds promising"

<Depress clutch, find first gear>

"Jeez... that feels kind of awkward..."

"Why is the steering wheel over there anyway?"

"Gonna have to get used to these pedals again"

<Drive slowly through subdivision>

"Man, this car is weird..."

<Look for sunroof switch>

"Where the %*&^ is that thing!?!?"

<Finally find switch, lurking in a completely invisible spot>

"@%$# ergonomic nightmare.... Grrr..."

<Debate adjusting climate control. Look down at controls and think...>

"Hmmm... I think I'd better read up on this."

<Decide that it's OK... you'll just leave it as is...>

"Maybe I should have bought that Boxster after all..."

<Turn left onto that first open country road. Start to open it up. Hear that intoxicating sound. Feel the liquid torque - not amazing by modern standards, but still very satisfying... Notice how now all the controls feel suddenly right. Marvel at how stable the car is at speed.>

"Oh YEAH!!! NOW I remember! This is SO cool."

<Eventually arrive home after what invaribly is too short of a drive. Mind completely cleared of the troubles of the world...>

"Wow, I love this car..."

If this has been done before let me know and I will delete.

I'll start:

-oil dip stick inside the filler
-the amount of oil that it takes when doing an oil change
-seperate large oil reservoir
-the miles of A/C hoses located under the car
-air fan/housing and the beautiful noise it makes
-car sits relatively low...always hiting the ground in front of you
-the location for the hood, trunk, gas release handles

-how porsche was ahead of its time with the independent R&L heating system...

YES, POORLY functioning R&L heating system. Thank God for the 996.

...people pay good money for that in todays luxury cars!

Okay, thats enough from me

Rev hunting when you first start the car...always in doubt if it will settle down, and it does.

I have a few more:

User adjustable pedals.
The fact that if you pull the key out with the turn signal on, it will keep flashing.
The cabriolet top with a frame that is so strong you could stand on it.
