I thought I would start a new thread about 911 idiosyncrasies/and or features..good and bad that is mostly unique (or nearly unique) to the 911. The only suggestion is that if there is a discussion on an item to start a new thread so that we can keep this one pure and not off subject. If this has been done before let me know and I will delete.
I'll start:
-oil dip stick inside the filler
-the amount of oil that it takes when doing an oil change
-seperate large oil reservoir
-the miles of A/C hoses located under the car
-air fan/housing and the beautiful noise it makes
-car sits relatively low...always hiting the ground in front of you
-the location for the hood, trunk, gas release handles
-how porsche was ahead of its time with the independent R&L heating system...
...people pay good money for that in todays luxury cars!
Okay, thats enough from me

- floor-hinged pedals (not necessarily good or bad, just different)
- distributor caps (other mainstream 80s cars have electronic ignition, crank sensors, etc.)
- beautiful functional gauge set (especially the tach front and center!)
- ***** to raise and lower the door locks (that seems like a solution looking for a problem)

- left hand key placement
- the sound of the engine
- oil & leather smell in the cabin
- overall durability of the car/engine
- rear engine placement
- door pulls (I've seen several varieties, that are unique for this car)
- the 2+2(halves) seating arrangement
- air cooled engine

Some of their owners are so cheap they won't buy a rennlist memembership to keep non technical posts in the non technical forums and post whimsical threads here.

Perhaps, but with the amount of stuff I buy I try to always use the sponsors on this site! Thank you for your tackful and gracious comments.
BTW, this was borrowed from another site and the thread is still running after 8 years. It was ment to be educational..not whimsical. Perhaps a newbie might read this and realize that
adding a pop off valve is unique to these cars and may save them the grief of having their air box EXPLODE! Some are too shortsided to see the potentials of this thread....and certainly this is more appropriate than keeping that silly thread on the 997 site about what watch do you have.

You want an eccentric car? Try driving a 914-6. My 911 seems damned civilized. I just rolled on into the 911 thinking this car was too refined to be exciting.

The alarm system beeps drive me mad on my 89. Get inside,..lock the doors (thereby arming the alarm system) and hear the most annoying periodic tone...whimsically-speaking.
