Default Off Topic: Need a Toyota mechanic in Los Angeles

I trust this forum so I am hoping someone has some experience (in LA) with an independent Toyota repair shop. I bought my neighbor's 99 Land Cruiser with 180k miles. It is in pristine condition but just blew a head gasket (hopefully that's it). Anyway, the purchase price reflects the risk on my part. So now I need a good independent shop. Any suggestions? Andrew

Replacing head gasket on a 99 LC is not all that complicated and can be done anywhere.

Rebuilding the transmission on my '88 LC is another story altogether.

Default Have you tried a Toyota dealer? Their labor rate is much lower than Porsche.

I have had excellent service experiences at Whittier Toyota.

Thanks. I went to a local Honda shop and they quoted me 22 hours (book rate) for head gaskets (assuming there is no damage to the block or rings) but hourly is half the cost of most Land Cruiser specialists and the labor is half!

Please keep this stuff in OT. Before you know it, people will be posting pics of their new puppies.

agreed ... but only deducted a half point because is was somewhat technical ( okay I am getting in the olympic spirit). Bottom line if you think you need to put OT in the title guess where it belongs. Oh and if your pic has no Porsche or Porsche part in it, it goes in the same place ....

LA is a big place. Can you narrow it down a little?

FWIW, I know a GREAT independent shop in the Valley. They service my Lexus and I've been very happy. Of course, they do Toyota as well.
