Default Reason Why You Should Not Sell Your Porsche 911....

Its not just a car...its part of your family which brought joy and fond memories.
When my son was 3-5 years old we use to drive our 68 MB 280sl to the Santa Barbara Zoo almost every Thursday. Now our kid is 18 years old and away at college only seeing him every few months. Driving the SL now reminds me of the great times we use to have....and I am glad I never sold it when I had the opportunity to.
I bought my Porsche 83SC less than a year ago from a guy who didn't have much time to enjoy the car since his kids were getting a little older. Before I drove away his little boy asked if he could hug the car...brought tears to my eyes. I told the owner he might one day regret selling his car and I promised that if I ever did, I would look for him first.
Sorry if I sound a little "moushy"..but my wife and I really miss those days.
I hope this story might make some the younger guys think twice before selling their 911...and prevent it from becoming "the gone but not forgotten" crowd.

Great words.
You are absolutely right when you say that the car is part of the family.
I still remember the cars my Dad had.
The family went with me to a couple of Porsche gatherings and my daughter fell in love 911s.
They all know how long I have dreamed of having a 911, so they too appreciate how special it is.
I would certainly regret having to sell, and I know they would all be sad too.

cheers

My 911 already has a place in our family...both my kids (5yr old boy and 3yr old girl) love the car and we go out every chance we get. Ice cream, grocery store...just because. They have their CD in the car and we just go for a cruise. We attend car events together and just use it as a tool to have fun together. Certainly part of the family.

Nice wors Abe and very to the point. My oldest son (12) is helping me quite a bit with restoring the 911. All my kids remember the 911's I had very vividly, I had to promise already many times that the present one will not be sold, ever.

Nice SL. I sold my 230SL last year after 18 years of great memories. I still see my old car around town and the new owner has fixed it up even nicer.

Great story and that is one nice SL

I have regrets selling my old VW Thing after 15 years of ownership.
It was my dad's weekend toy and my wedding getaway vehicle.

Default John, funny you should say that. I posted this on the w113 sl site...

..and this guy changed his mind about selling his VW just before starting his transaction. I think I accomplished my goal by keeping his VW in the family.

Great story... memories like that, the feeling every time behind the wheel, the quickly turning heads... ahhhh.... who would ever sell? I'm going for a drive.

When I get mine, our three-year-old will get a ride any time she wants. She loves cars!

Last weekend, I spotted a Turbo Cab w/two little girls in the back seats. Those little perches may not be big, but you can't do that in a Corvette or Boxster or...well, it's a prime reason I'm seeking a 911. Making those family memories.

Ah yes, there's something else I just remembered. My father passed away in 2006 at age 89. Since 1972, he'd driven a VW Beetle. I remember sitting in 911s as a young boy while Dad's car was being serviced at the town's only VW/Porsche dealership.

Just this week, I was sitting in an '89 Targa and noticed the temp controls were pull-up levers located between the seats...just like Dad's old '72 Beetle.

Funny how these inanimate objects we love can bring back so many fond memories!

Reminds of a time many years ago when I went to look at a 88 turbo-look cab for sale by the original owner. After a test drive we agreed to a price. Boy was I excited. The next day he called and said while he was cleaning up the car he decided against selling the car. For him and his wife the car had to much sentimental value and memories. He was very sincere and offered me compensation for my time and allowed me to take the car for a drive anytime I wish. I wonder if he still has that car. It was very nice. Anyways, this was before I found my 89 speedster so I guess things work out for the better.

Our family of four has gone for lunch, dinner, ice cream, to the mountains, lake, and various other fun places. It doesn't have a lot of room for juice boxes or luggage, but it's the best mode of transportation to get us all from here to wherever. Well, the minivan does a great job transporting us, the 911 is part of the journey.
