Default Tires

It is getting to be time (10 yrs) for new tires. 1987 911 with 15 inch Fuchs. Seems like none of the usual suspects are carrying 15 inchers anymore. What gives? Sources? Thanks.

tirerack.com would be a good start.

As for tire choice it really depends on you. For starters, how wide are your rims? What do you use this car for? Is price an issue or would you rather have good grip? Does this car ever see snow? Do you do a lot of driving in the rain or would you rather have outright dry performance.

What gives? 15" tires becoming obsolete. 16" aren't a lot better. The tendency to larger diameter wheels on today's cars and the aftermarket biz means that is where tire companies are focusing efforts.

www.tires-easy.com

I was running 225/50/15s on my last 911. They have four pages of them.

Hey Jim, I'm in the same boat - and have also noted that the selection in 15" is a bit slim.

However, if you're looking to stay with stock sizes, Tire Rack has three brands listed:

GoodYear Eagle GT (ultra high-performance all-season)
Kuhmo Ecsta LX Platinum (grand touring all-season)
Pirelli P6000 (high performance summer)

Of the three listed, the Pirelli's are the only N-rated tires - though I'm not certain what relevance that has as I've heard that Porsche has simply not evaluated any other 15" tires recently...

I'm also looking for recommendations on which tires to get - in the next couple of seasons, my car will see several sprited drives on curvy backroads and an odd autocross or DE, but will primarily serve as a nice-weather DD (though she's not afraid of the rain).

Just fitted a set of Pirelli P6000's. They seem quiet, responsive and ,so far, give me confidence.
