It's possible to retrofit power-assist brakes, but not simple. My '72 has them.

Well, for me it was a '1' -- which is to say I just had to write a check. But if I remember right, you need to cut a vacuum boost unit out of a 77-or-later car and cut the corresponding piece out of the sheet metal inside your trunk to weld the unit in. That's the toughest part. Then you have to run a vacuum line for it through the central tunnel (and you need to have an engine with a vacuum source -- which could be the toughest part of all). I'm not sure if you need to switch out part, all, or none of the pedal cluster.

My car had 930 brakes before I added the boost, and the only difference is pedal effort. It's not that it was difficult to push the pedal, either. But if your leg is used to modern power brakes, the older ones take an adjustment. I would have been happy to keep the old setup, and with stock 1972 brakes it would have been an even easier choice -- but the shop already had the car all apart, and happened to have a booster sitting around, so I did it.

I like the reduced pedal effort now (unlike power steering, which I would never want), but I don't mind at all when I'm driving an early car with big brakes and no boost. Like I said, it's just a mental adjustment.
